invisible contacts

I've got an annoying problem with my 680.
A lot of my contacts aren't in the contact list, but I can find them by going to "messaging" and start to send a text.
When I enter the first few letters of the contact's name, their number comes up.
So-it's stored in the phone somewhere, but not where I can access it when using the contact list with the phone.
How do I fix this?
