OK, I will attempt a stab at your concerns . . .
1. Gmail is an internet based email. They tried to make it POP, but if you do a search on the forums here you will several people have all kinds of problems with it. A windows based phone is not going to help you much with gmail. Hotmail is a similar problem. Its web based, not a standard protocol, like most accounts that use pop or imap protocols.
2. Palm's browser doesn't support a lot of flash and script embedded web sites. 650 users have an option in mini-opera browser with IBM websphere added on. Again, if your interested, search the forums here for links (Palm's web site has websphere on it) but I couldn't get it to run on my 680.
3. See 1.
4. Sorry, can't help here, but I bet there are some here who can!
5. I am going to say this is a Cingular thing . . The reason why I say that, is because carriers vary in location as to how they are with signal strength, etc. Where I am located, Cingular Rocks! That might not be the case where you are! But don't rule out the phone! Were you a Cingular customer before the 680? And if you were, how was your signal strength and dropped calls?
6. AIM is available, kind of . . Check out mundu and IM+ here in the store.

Both of these support AIM, Yahoo, ICQ, MSN, Googletalk, and Jabber.
As far as returning the Treo, actually, I am going to suggest that you do return it. If your like me, you need a phone first! Dropped calls are something I personally couldn't live with. Recommendations? I won't make any. But I will tell you, I have read some horror stories involving the blackjack on the net. Battery Life with the BJ is terrible.
I can tell you that my experiences are nothing like yours. I have a gmail account, but rarely use it. I have an msn account too, but haven't used the mail in years. I also use
Chatteremail to handle my mail accounts. I don't do a lot of general surfing. If I do, its usually to specific mobile sites, such as mobile.google.com I use apps such as Boopsie and Quickipedia. Or I use Quicknews to pull my news feeds to my Treo. Regardless of what you do, how about letting us know if you solve your woes or what you end up with!
