MP3 to ringtones treo 680
I am trying to convert mp3s on my PC to ringtones on my phone? But I have not been able to do it. Any suggestions.
Thanks,

Google 'Ringo'.
The 680 doesn't support MP3 ringtones natively.
I assume that's what you mean by 'convert'. However, there also is software out there to convert MP3 to MIDI format, which would be handled natively by the 680. However, MIDI is not a high fidelity format; your Led Zepellin songs would sound the way a Van Gogh painting would look if only two colors were used.

Perhaps MiniTones is the solution you're looking for?
MiniTones searches your 680 and your SD card also for sound files and allows you to add them to the native 680 sound application.
Look here for some previous discussion: Any issues with Minitones on Treo 680?

Im using Ringo, so far the only issue is that you have to set your ringtone to "no sound" under preferences or else the built-in ring tone and the one set by ringo go off at the same time..

In addition to the above advice, I use Audacity to edit my mp3's. I use it for other things as well, but if your looking for a certain 15 seconds of a song, this freeware program is what you need to edit out a certain section. You will also have to download the lame.dll, and the sourceforge site provides a link. Follow the instructions provided, but basically what you do is unzipp Audacity, and install it. Download the Lame.dll and place it somewhere on your computer. Import an mp3, wav, etc. Highlight the section you want, save it as an mp3, drop it to your SD card, and point your mp3 ring capable (Ringo, mring, minitones) to it. Hope this helps . .

Thanks,
I second the recommendation for Audacity. Use it on your computer to edit the portion of the song you want to use as a ringtone. No need to make the WHOLE SONG a ringtone.
Someone recommended Ringo; instead of Ringo I use mRing, which has been great except that it has an issue with blocked caller ID locking up the phone. Tech support friendly and helpful though. With mRing I can set up different ringtones for people or groups, and you can setup (and even schedule) different profiles like loud, discreet, etc to control how loud it'll play and whether it'll vibrate and stuff.
With all that said, while Ringo and mRing provide enhanced ringtone support via third party software, a update to the AT&T Treo 680 supports mp3 ringtones natively.
Product Update 2.11 for Palm Treo 680 smartphone for AT&T. Here's the user guide for that update. However, looking through it just now, there definitely isn't a clear explanation of how to take MP3s you've already put on your card and use them. I think you must have to e-mail them or get to them via the web browser as some other folks have indicated. In fact, on the update site it even says, "Enhanced ringtone support – MP3 and other sound files purchased from the web or sent from friends can now be set as ringtones and alerts. Supported ringtone formats include MP3, AAC, AAC+, MIDI, WAV, and AMR." Note the "sent from friends."
It does look like minitones specifically "allows you to select a MP3 file and add it to your ringtone list in Sounds." Once you've got the sound listed as a ringtone, it's easy to assign it as a default tone or even to a contact. So investigate that, too!

I use Ringo. You can google it and find it easily. I haven't had a problem with Ringo at all. I don't have to put no sound under my normal ring tone, just leave it at where it was before.
To make the ringtone myself I use the site, http://makeownringtone.com/
Yes, its very straight forward but thats ok, it does the job. Its a very easy to use website where you upload the song listen and pick the part you want. You can either save it to your computer (which is what you would do if you have a usb cable and can transfer it like that), send it in an email so you can check your email on your phone and click the link to download it, or it will give you a web-address to type into your phones address bar on the internet and download it from there.
