Question Network Identification Garbeled Text

I look through some postings and did not find anything on this ... if there is already a forum on it let me know and I will go there.
I am looking for a solution to this problem ... I called cingular and they are clueless, people are exchanging phones and it still happens on every new phone. For those of us on 30 day trial period time is running out. ....

Here is a posting from the cingular customer forum ... HELP IF YOU CAN

Has anyone seen the issue where the "Cingular" Name and signal strength area becomes "garbled"? The signal strangth goes to no bars, and the "Cingular" text becomes characters and seems bold. The calls and messages inbound still work, but you loose the ability to call out. And a simple reset or power cycle of the "phone" part does not resolve the problem. I am finding this condition after both inactive and active times. Can someone please tell me what it is. It is device independent. I have already had 3 680s, and 2 out of 3 did it. The third, never synced to the network.

HERE is a link to read more (hope it works)

that sounds like a problem with the radio part of the unit. Probably a quality control problem maybe its time to move on to something else.

The problems is not with the phone, neither does it occur on other networks. It is a problem with the 3G SIM cards from Cingular.

For a very good discussion of the gibberish problem, go to:

http://treo.discussion.treocentral.c...d.php?t=131154

Read the posts from Electro-Tether on page 5. He recommends getting a new SIM card from Cingular with model no: 73000 G 3021 to replace the existing model no. 73000 O 4021.

I have had the same problem. Cingular said to go to a Cingular store and get a new SIM card for free. Store only had the 4021 cards, which I already have. Cingular is now mailing me the 3021 card. Will let you know if it solves my problem.
