So here's the good news / bad news for you, andreasn -
First off, the Docs2Go that came on the Palm CD will not work on Vista (or Microsoft Office 2007, if you have that installed too) and you will need to blow further money to upgrade to v10 of it to do so. Even so, I understand that this version will not work with the CD's Palm Desktop
The Palm Desktop that came on the CD will work on Vista, but it's Quick Install feature (to transfer files to the Treo) will not. There is a BETA release of a new Vista-friendly Desktop with a replacement for QI included and with which Docs2Go v10 works, but it requires a full uninstall of your current Desktop first -
and its a Beta product....
However, in regards to installing software
now, there is an option. With the install of the CD's Palm Desktop, you should have access to an install with the applicable .prc > right click > Send to...> Palm Powered Handheld. This is a shortcut to the program Instapp in the Palm folder. Ignore Quick Install, also listed.
Now irritatingly enough with Vista, you get one of those User Access Control dialogs, but get past that and you will be given a dialog box with that file listed - and the opportunity to add others and choose destination (device or SD card). Do what you will there and HotSync and the files should travel across.
The only caveat I have on this process is that, for whatever reason, the files don't clear this box once installed (at least, on my machine), so you'll want to delete them the next time you use it.
Another option to installing would be to use a SD card reader / writer and install files and programs to a card. Some programs will run from the card (and you need to be sure in which folder to place them sometimes) or you can then move them over to the device with a freeware product like FileZ, which works not unlike Windows Explorer.
Hope this helps!
