New treo girl in distress
So I just got my first Treo and it is great. The ringtone situation kind of stinks though. I have been researching all over, even here, and cannot find a solution. I have downloaded ringo pro, minitunes, mring, and lightwave2 and none of this have worked! I am at a loss. I have a Treo 680 and a mac powerbook, can I have some ringtones? I like to make my own and not buy them too. Please help if you can!!! thanks:frown:

All of those should have worked . . . Lets start at the beginning, just to make sure we can help you. You are getting these apps installed to your 680 through quick install, and I am guessing you are storing these apps on the device itself?

I am transporting them with my usb and saving to my treo. They are in with all my other apps. I can open them, look at them, but they all didn't seem to recognize my mp3s. And in no way did they help me make ringtones.

Open up Ringo.

By Default Ringtone, hit your dropdown arrow.

Select your SD Card, and "OK". You may have to navigate further to the place that you have stored your MP-3's.

Highlight the ringtone you want as the default and select "OK"

Selecting the blue ">" should play the MP-3 you have selected.
Hope this helps!

Actually, I believe MP-3's should play on the app itself. I know I can navagate to the Treo's own default apps from within Ringo and play them, so I would think that MP-3's would also work. Are you able to navigate from within Ringo to the location that your MP-3 is residing?
That said, I know that since music/movies take up so much space, most store them on the SD Card. I would certainly recommend that you purchase an SD card to get the most from your Treo. Like a computer, a Treo uses memory temporarily, and usually filling the devices memory full of apps spells disaster when certain apps need that extra memory to run and its not available. 1 gig cards are cheap and the 680 will support up to 4 gig cards. I currently am using a 2 gig card with about 250 megs free.

well they were in ptunes but, when ringo would look for mp3s it would never find them. Now I am having trouble with ptunes crashing my treo. I am worried that all these downloads are starting to cause me problems. I am almost ready to give up.

I would suspect Ringo causing problems before I'd suspect PocketTunes. In my experience, PocketTunes has been rock solid.

Ringo does have an interaction history that dates back a long, long time. LWII would be a better solution. The site is http://www.toysoft.ca/lightwav.html. Ben

Don't give up!!!
There are ways to have ringtones!!!!
I don't have ringo so I have no clue about that. I use minitones and it works fine. When you open minitones, it will list the MP3s available and then you click on which ones you want to use. Then when you go into your Sound Preferences and open up your tones, they will be there.
The only thing I have yet to get to work is to be able to edit an MP3 down to a ringtone in minitones. I don't know why it didn't work and no one has responded to a lot of questions I posted about all this ringtone stuff.
To edit ringtones, I use Audacity http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
It was confusing at first, but it works awesome. Just import your MP3 into Audacity, edit it down to the 20 - 30 sec clip you want for a ringtone and then export it as an MP3. Then put that into your Quick Install. There's more instructions to it, and you can find them all on the audacity site or in the forums. What I like about it is that if I wanted to take a 2 sec clip and repeat it for 20 seconds to make a ringtone, that is possible in audacity.
I hope that helps!
