Phone On/Off Quitely?
Just got two new 680s as upgrades to Cingular Mini-Brick Nokias (3120 and 6230 which I liked). The 680 now replaces three things in the wife's purse: phone, old Handspring Prism (may it rest in peace), Dell DJ MP3 player. Added an SD card in each and loaded HandyShopper (freeware). Bought lots of accessories (from Everything Treo, of course). Also added Treoguard and Palm Voice Dialer. Loaded the SD card with tons of music from our CD collection. So far, I'm very impressed with the OS implementation and all of the features rolled into one. Of course, there's always room for improvement:
What I'm looking for is a way to silence the startup/shutdown tones for the phone - very irritating, especially using Treoguard's scheduled phone on/off feature - you get these sounds all the time and sometimes in the wrong places. I've asked Treoguard's support to add the feature, but from what I've heard from their own forum users, the developer has vanished. I don't want to buy Phone Technician just for the one feature of Phone On/Off Quitely. Any hack out there? Or is there a way to disable this that I haven't been estute enough yet to discover? Thanks.

Hello gkelley,
This is the only way I figured out how to turn off or turn down the power on/off sound.
Go to sound preferences, then system, then adjust the system volume. Only thing is this turns off the sound it makes when you're pushing any of the buttons. I don't know if that's an issue for you.
Try that see if it works.

Thanks, that worked AND got rid of TWO annoyances.

No problem, glad I could help. :laugh3:
