I have had this problem though it was not correlated with updating my Treo 680. It's happened to me twice and both times - sorry to be the bearer of bad news! - the only solution was to have AT&T replace the phone. Luckily it was under warranty so they did it for free without complaints in an afternoon. In a nutshell, it appears that using a headset can (sometimes) break the 680 so that you can only hear audio with a headset and the 680 microphone doesn't work at all (with or without the headset). I can't remember how I figured this out except that I searched extensively online and found others who had had the same problem. The AT&T guys told me that it's a known problem with the 680 with no solution. My solution is that I now *never* put a headset into the phone (but no problem with a bluetooth set - the problem appears to be caused by manually inserting a headset jack into the 680).
Hope this helps,
Abraham

I just saw a software patch that turns off the headphone jack when it gets broken so the speaker does not turn off too - you can't use the jack of course but at least the phone works - just in case you don't have a warranty! I do not remember the name of the program but it shold be fairly easy to find.

Thanks All for your help. It seems that problem was not with the hardware like the jack or the phone mic. it was due to the upgrade, made some app not compatible and was causing that problem. I made a hard reset and left out some app and Im reinstalling one by one to see which one was causing the problem. I almost certain that is IBM webphere but not sure yet, the only thing is that without that I cannot have opera

Hi, your post describes my exact situation with my Treo. If possible, can you give a lead/hint or something to Google in finding this program? Thanks.

VolumeCare Headset Bypass is the name of the application, available here in the software section.
Good luck!
