Ringtones, mintones, audacity QUESTIONS!!! Hi all,
I am a newb.. just got my treo 680 last night. I have a bunch of questions about how to make ringtones:
Background: I put on minitones, and got an MP3 on it, but could not get it to edit it. Then I read a bunch of posts and went with Audacity. The post I read said to convert to wave, but I found converting to MP3 took up a LOT less space. What I did was converted a track I wanted in Itunes (I have a PC and prefer Itunes to Windows Media Player). Then I opened that in Audacity and edited down to about the 20 second length the phone will ring for. Then I exported that to an MP3 and dropped it in the Expansion Card section of the Palm Quick Install and hotsynched. Now I can go into minitones and add that MP3 that has already been edited and set it as a ringtone. It works really well. I still have a number of questions maybe some of you can help me with:
1) Why couldn't I edit in minitones?
2) Why was I told to put the ringtone in a wave format when that takes up so much more space than MP3?
3) Now that I have added the MP3s using minitones and set them as ringtones, how do I delete them from the minitones menu? Everytime I use minitones, it re-finds the same MP3s...
4) Where are these ringtones taking up space on my treo? My expansion card or my treo itself? I know they are on the expansion card, but I thought a ringtone couldn't run off the expansion card and was somehow stored in the treo. However, I cannot see the space being used when I open up my storage/usage on my treo.
5) The treo guide says if you have a PC to use Windows Media Player to convert tracks to MP3s - I am using Itunes and it seems to work fine. What is up with this?
Thank you all for your help. I would be totally lost on this thing without all your wisdom! I hope someone has some answers to this and I also hope anything I have discovered may be helpful to the next person.
Sincerely,
