    Default Screen Jibberish

When I first got my phone in January a couple of times the Cingular text in the upper left hand corner of the screen would occasionally turning into jibberish, you know various characters and symbols instead of the Cingular name.

In order to get it to go away I had to remove the battery. Then after I downloaded the battery update it stopped doing it.

That is until the other day. And now it has done it again today.

Anyone else have this problem? Know of any remedies?

    Thanks.

And is there anyway to just get rid of Cingular altogether? Personalize it?

Welcome to the ET forums! According to some here, the Gibberish seems to be caused by the Cingular Sims Cards.

As far as getting rid of the Cingular Screen altogether, there was a guy on another Treo forum who was doctoring "The Simpsons" screen shots and replacing the phone screen with those. The best I remember, it was loaded onto the phone like any other application through the hotsync . . I can't provide any links, but because I tried a couple of them myself, can speak for the fact that it can be done . .

    Hey thanks!

Yeah, I'm sure it can be done. I'm just being lazy and looking for the easy step by step!

I love the treo otherwise. It's just one of those things that peeves me.

Figures it would be the sim.

I have had the same issue with the Cingular jibbersih a few times over the past few weeks. I called Cingular and they claim it was from a downed tower in my area and that the problem would end when I left the area, and reset the Treo. So I said to them in order to fix the problem I have to leave my home, and then reset my treo so that it picks up another tower? And they said yes, that for the time being I should use my landline phone. Problem is, my cell phone is my only phone and I told Cingular that they need to fix the tower because this cell phone is my only phone and that I disn't think that I should have to reset my phone everytime I leave home or that I should leave my home to malke a call. After all I pay them enough every month for service I cannot get. The problem was fixed by the end of the day and I only ended up resetting the phone twice.

I won't even get into some of the issues I have had with Cingular since they have become the new (old, reincarnated, resurrected, whatever) AT&T~!

Anyway, my phone has been okay now for going on 56 hours!
