T-Mobile Treo 680 ?'s
I have a BB pearl with the data plan. I'm interested in buying a Unlocked 680 but i wanted to know if I need the data plan to browse the net and receive email? Could I just use t-zones? Is there anything that I would need to know about having a 680 for t-mobile?

I have an unlocked 680 with T-Mobile, with T-Zones you are able to get email. What has led me here is my 680 initially was giving me access through the web browser then something has happened and I no longer get the web. I do not have the data plan and don't want to pay the 20 per month if I can avoid it. Not sure what caused it to stop. email works fine with T-zones.

question
Tzone is 5.99 per month right? Is it unlimited? allow to access any website?

T-Zones doesn't work with "unlocked" devices (only their own branded devices) so you will have to sign up for the data plan.

I have an unlocked Treo 680, purchased directly from the Palm Store, online. I've also had T-Zones, now called T-Mobile Web, the $4.99 package, which now costs $5.99 for those not grandfathered into it. I transfered my sim card directly from my old phone to the Treo, and have no trouble accessing the Web using the T-Mobile proxy and the Treo Blazer web browser. Other web browsers will likely not work, nor will applications that access the web directly but not using the Blazer, unless you can put a proxy address into them. T-Mobile offers a $19.99 smartphone data plan that allows complete access to the Internet, unlike T-Zones, which has a number of ports blocked. But for basic email and Web access, T-Mobile Web (the old T-Zones) is fine. If you want streaming video, Internet radio, etc. you will need the pricier data plan.

Hello,
I also have an unlock Treo 680 that I bought from Palm, but I can't access the web using T-zones (T-mobileweb). Could you please send me the settings you used? My email is cmirin100@comcast.net

5. Press the Menu button, and tap to select New from the Service menu.
6. Type T-Zones in the Service field.
7. Tap to select GPRS from the Connection dropdown list.
8. Tap the User Name field.

Setting up your Treo for the web with T-Zones
It sounds as if you have used a combination of things you found out there, but you shouldn't have to make the new connection you describe if you actually have subscribed to T-Mobile Web (Previously called Tzones). Here is what I suggest you do.
1. Update your Treo. There is a new update available. Previously it defaulted to T-Mobile Internet every time your Treo reset itself, but now it defaults to the service you presumably have, which is still called T-Zones on the phone.
2. Hit the home icon on your Treo and navigate to Prefs. Choose Prefs, and then under 'communication' choose 'Network'. You should see a drop down list at the top of the Network page for 'Service' , and one of the choices should be 'T-Zones'. Choose 'T-Zones'. If you do not see T-Zones on the list, perhaps you do not HAVE the service and you need to contact T-Mobile. Make sure that T-Zones is selected. It cannot be edited if it came to you from T-Mobile, and it has all the right settings in it.
You don't need to put in any information about the APN etc. Do NOT put anything into the line that says User name: 'tap to enter name'. Leave this just as it is, nothing in it.
3. Now hit the Home key again and this time navigate to 'Web'. Select 'Web' and when the Blazer browser comes up, hit the menu key on your Treo . Choose 'options'. Under 'options' select 'advanced'. Under 'advanced' hit the radio button for 'set proxy'. On the 'set proxy' page tick the box for 'Use custom proxy server'. Enter
216.155.165.50 on the dotted line for the proxy server.
Enter 8080 on the dotted line after the word 'Port'
Make sure you say 'ok' on the page before hitting your home icon again.
This is all I had to do, and my Treo connects perfectly with the Web, but only with sites that are accessible through the Blazer browser. No streaming radio, no Google Maps.
You didn't say if you are able to get your email (I have 3 accounts that work fine, including a university account and gmail). If you can't get your email, perhaps you don't really have T-Mobile web. If you are getting GPRS signals you should see little green squiggles above the battery indicator bars. Do you?
