No one has said officially, but unofficially, many expect it to debut on Cingular for $200 with two year plan. And many have said, it will drop even lower shortly after the 1st of the year. Many have speculated that it you can buy unlocked from Palm for $300! None of this is official, just what I have been reading . . .

i know this is supposed to be a lower price point item that the 700 but how much lower? and how much will the unlocked version be?

Although no plans have been announced for cdma, I really expect announcements. After all, this was Palm's device for the masses . . .

I am betting by 2nd quarter, 07.

yay! two beans is doable. i've been waiting for the warranty period to be over to try to unlock my 650... maybe i should get the new one first before attempting it....any thoughts? on the treonauts site they say it will retail unlocked for $399 from palm direct. hmm.

No one knows for sure. Any price you see would be pure speculation. I'd venture to guess that $399 unlocked and $149-$199 sounds like a good bet. In a perfect world, $299 unlocked and $99 w/ 2 year contract.

What Chris said is very correct. What I have said above are repeats of some of what I have read and at this point, the only ones who really know aren't saying . . . I would venture to guess, that Chris's numbers sound more likely than the ones I have quoted . .

I guess the only way to find out is to be patient. I have to say I would rather not pay $400 for an unlocked 680 but I plan to do a lot of international travelling in the next year and would rather not fuss with trying to unlock a cheaper one bought from Cingular. I don't think I'm that technologically saavy. Unless someone is willing to walk me through it...

KitKat, if you call Cingular Customer Service, and tell them you need an unlock code for your 650, they will send it to you along with instructions for unlocking. I am told, its a matter of poking in a few numbers in sequence . . . It is my understanding that they will do this for any Cingular customer that has had service with them more than 90 days . .

I have never put it to test but have read it on this forum and others.

There are also companies that will do it for you. You send them your Treo and some money and they send your Treo back unlocked. You might want to google Treo Unlock Service and see what it returns. I just did and found this one . . .
