Default Treo 680 and certain t-mobile SIM Cards not working

Okay, so after excitedly retiring my t-mobile Treo 600 for the shiny new unlocked 680, when I transferred my old SIM card to it, I was mortified to get a message similar to: "Check SIM card: SIM Card Damaged or Unreadable"

I did it all: Hard resets, soft resets, bla bla, and nothing worked.

Took it to a wireless store. The technician put in a Cingular SIM card and suddenly the phone came to life.

Turns out the old GEMPlus SIM cards (32k) don't work in the new phone. Of course there's NO MENTION of this on the Palm Web site, but there you go. You have to spring for another $25 and get a new SIM card.

I spoke with Palm engineers today (55 minute wait on hold just for the privilege of helping Palm out by reporting details of the issue, I know, I'm a martyr, why else would I keep buying palm?), and it looks like they are having several issues with t-mobile SIM cards, not just ones that are 32k, old versions.

If you are a t-mobile customer, and are having similar issues, call Palm, and if you're lucky and patient enough to get to speak with a representative, they might have some idea of what is involved in this issue by that point.

    Cheers.
