Treo 680 and Navigation
I'm thinking of purchasing Tom Tom's Navigator 6. Will it work with the Treo 680? Their website lists the 650 and 700p and 700w.

Yes, same OS and Bluetooth version. Plus, I checked our store to see if the TomTom bundle was compatible -- sure enough, the Treo 680 is listed. BTW, I have v.5 and it's awesome.

Bad Advice. I just purchased Tom Tom navigator 6 at the Philly Airport. Now I'm in Jacksonville, and when I insert the preloaded SD card, the phone says "this device is not compatible". Any thoughts???

I'm sorry for providing the wrong information. I did a bit of research and did confirm an issue with the 680 and TT6. This issue does not affect TT5. From my understanding, it's not the OS or Bluetooth implementation, but rather the device ID of the 680. The TT software checks the device ID, checking to see if it's a device that is supported. Since the newer Treo 680 has a new device ID, the TomTom software balks at install. Now, theoretically the software is compatible, but that doesn't help you today. TomTom will need to release a patch to add Treo 680 support. I'll shoot an email to TomTom today to see if I can find any additional information.
Once again, sorry for the incorrect information. Hopefully, TT will provide a patch in the short term to resolve this issue.

chris,
any idea when tom-tom will release the nav 6 for the 680?, If it's a couple of weeks, I'll hang onto it. Otherwise I guess I'll step up and purchase a Portable Tom-Tom or Garmin unit. Thanks, Steve

That is good to hear. Please keep us informed when this patch is in; I really want to use TomTom Nav6 =)

Yeah, I am desperate about this too, only commenting so that I get an email when someone answers

Things came up and I had forgotten about this issue. I just sent an inquiry to TomTom (who by the way has a terrible site to navigate). You have login and go through their help section before they'll provide any contact info.
Either way, they claim max 2 days response. I've explained the situation and that an easy fix would prevent returns of their product. Hopefully, I'll have an answer shortly.
With Palm discontinuing the Treo 650 this week, it would be in their best interest to upgrade that GPS system sooner than later.

Just got the response from TomTom. I suspect this is lower level customer support and a canned response. Not very good.
Dear ,
Thank you for contacting TomTom Customer Support.
I regret to inform you that the Palm Treo 680 is not supported for use with TomTom Navigator 6 software. We are constantly testing and adding new devices to the list but we are not able to say when ,or indeed if, specific devices will appear on the list.
Please keep an eye on the below link over the coming months for further information.

I received the identical reply.
I am in the process of trying to get some maps compatible with ver5 as the application software seems to be OK with 680.
