    Default TREO 680 disadvantages?

    Hi there,
May I ask the disadvantages of the TREO 680? I still have the 600 and was waiting to upgrade for a GSM model (as at times I travel outside the USA). So now I am planning on getting the 680 unless someone can tell me why I shouldn't.

    Thanks,
    Carol

What comes to mind is the camera, if that is disadvantage. It is definitely a step above the 650. Ben

Comparing the 680 to the 600 there are several advantages that come to mind.
    Newer OS
    Much more Memory
    Nicer Screen
Edge data radio- but still slower than say 700/750 on sprint/verizon
    Ptunes vs Real
nicer and slightly smaller form factor and looks like a choice of colors
Not a bad introductory price compared to 600/650 intros

A couple of disappointments to me are the camera and the fact that they don't offer the new high speed data radios that Sprint/Verizon currently offer.

The battery is also rated a bit lower. Those are things I would be willing to live with if the 700p were not available to me.

Have you thought of changing carriers?

Ben, I don't think you were asking me, but I have found myself in just that delima. My daughter is on cingular, my son was on Cingular before leaving for Iraq, and when he returns next week to Colorado will once again pick up a Cingular phone. My wife and I both currently are under contract with Cingular. Its the wrong point in time to jump ship . . . . Its this reason, I am considering a 680 unlocked when it is introduced, and handing over the 650 to my wife. The smaller battery is a tiny concern . . . Cingular not offering HSDPA on it is a much larger concern for me. I have been encouraging my family to "buy" GSM phones outright and not be locked to some two year contract, always keeping their options open. Once upon a time, Cingular WAS the carrier to go with in my area. Sprint was barely decent and Verizon was Terrible! That is far from true now, and I certainly would consider a Sprint plan, but when I am getting free minutes with my Son and Daugther, both living in other cities with Cingular, these things out weigh High Speed Data . . . .

I also have Nextel ONLY because of the family. I hate the service with a passion. When the contract is up I may go with a GSM carrier and still keep the Treos under Sprint. Ben
