Treo 680 reboots using hardkeys
Hi, I hope this helps someone. I was messing around and deleted the Palm contacts in my desktop software. I was hoping to get rid of them from the phone as it is just clutter to me. After HotSyncing the phone immediately after this it would reboot if I tried to use one of the hardkeys. This continued after resets.
I hard reset the phone. I removed the Palm Desktop and reinstalled. Then I HotSync'd the phone again like a brand new install. Now it works again.
I have only had the phone two days. I have not installed or deleted any apps, just media (del from the phone and desktop) and the contacts (del desktop only since I can't seem to delete them from the phone alone).
I'm thinking that Palm needs those entries they put there or the database is corrupt and the thing reboots. Love to hear if this is correct. So far the phone is great and I'm planning on hanging in there. I've read the horror stories, but I repair Palm devices and have heard it all from my customers. I firmly believe based on my experience that the OS is fine. It would suck if they have made it impossible to remove their data, but it wouldn't surprise me either. Microsoft does crap just like this.

The PIM databases are created by the PIM applications that reside in the ROM and after a hard reset, these are automagically created. If the hard keys are not set to use different applications, when the calender key is pressed and the corresponding database is not found, the unit will crash. These databases normally do not become corrupt in the sense that they cannot be rebuilt. However, they do not always properly remove records. When a hotsync stalls as a result of the PIMs, then dbScan can be used to delete those records marked deleted that were not deleted.
Once long ago I deleted some stuff from RAM that I should not have and learned my lesson well.
