    Default where to install software

I've only had my 680 about 3 weeks (my 1st smartphone!) and have just gotten my expansion card. Now that I have it, should I put any software that I download on the card or on the phone? Specifically -- should I install minitones on the expansion card? My phone still has about 59MB of memory, but I don't want to use it all up. I figure that'll affect the phone's performance...

Thanks for your help and advice!

I am not a minitones user, but I am pretty sure that it will have to reside on the Treo to work properly. However, the mp-3's that it uses can be chosen from the card. Almost everything else that I have on my Treo resides on my SD card, with a shortcut on my Treo. There are a few things that won't work from a card however. For me, its Ringo, Chatter, (many databases reside on the card however) Quicknews, and Treo Alarm. Anything else that can be moved to the card I put there to save memory! By the way to easily manage this, I use zLauncher. It provides a very easy way to install an app to the Treo, and then move the app and all databases to the card, leaving a very small shortcut on your Treo.

If you have a Vista computer you won't be able to use Quick Install, but otherwise, Quick Install gives you the ability to choose whether you want to install the .prc on the device or SD card - so you don't need to install to the 680 and then move it over to the SD card.

With Vista, you can use the right click > Send to...> Palm Handheld to get it to the device and then move it - or install the .prc via a card reader/writer with any computer.

Those programs you are able to install on the card may experience a slight lag in opening in comparison to being on the 680, while the programs will not show up in Palm's 'All' Category screen, but rather, on the screen for 'Card'.

I have Minitones on my SD card and it works ok. I do second the use of a third party launcher and as with SlowRocker I also use ZLauncher. Ben
