Desktop software Why won't my phone sync?

I know you have to sync it first before you can really do anything, right? Well when I press the hotsync button on the USB cord it takes awhile (like, 5 minutes) trying to connect, then it says "The connection between your handheld and the desktop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again" I have downloaded what I need to, so why isn't this working?

also check to make sure that the hotsync manager is running. You'll see the little round blue/red icon in your system tray. If it's not there, go to your program list, in the palm folder, and click on it. I have mine set to always be running.

Hi there, I am having this same problem, same error message and everything...I bought my phone from someone on craigslist and she didn't have the cd that came with it. I installed the Palm desktop software because I thought that was all I needed...is there something else I need to look for (another software)? HELP PLEASE! Thanks.

Note . . . . . .If you are running Windows Vista 64bit you will NOT be able to sync with the USB cable. Palm never released USB drivers for Vista 64bit. IF you have Vista 64bit you can sync with blue tooth.

Here are the steps for syncing with USB.

Install the Palm software latest ver is here. This is from the Palm support web site and it is Palm Desktop 6.2 and HotSync Manager.

Ok now you have the palm desktop and hotsync manager installed. check that you have the little hotsync system in the system tray. IF it's not there go to the start menu programs/palm and click on HotSync Manager.

Plug in your phone to the USB cable and the USB cable in to the computer. At this time the computer will detect and setup your device drivers for the phone. This may take a couple of mintues.

Once the device drivers are set up press the hot sync button on the USB cable, it should connect quickly and it should sync.

Let us know how this works for you and if it does fail, where does it fail.

If I cant locate the set up cd, is there another way to get one? How can I get my 680 to hot sync otherwise?

You could read my reply above, and follow the link I provided to get the software you need to install.

Thanks for your help, Rudy...unfortunately, I think I'm going to have to buy a new USB cord from Palm. I bought my phone from a girl on craigslist last year and she never gave me the software or the cord she had. I actually had the software already from my Palm Pilot (didn't realize it was the same at first) and I got a USB cord from a cell phone store on ebay. When I downloaded the software from the links you gave me, I realized that I am supposed to have a HotSync button on my cord...but I don't have one. This is so frustrating...if I'd known I was going to have to go through all this, I would have talked the girl down in price some.

Just another option . . . .

If your computer has blue tooth your do not need the USB cable, you can sync by blue tooth.
