I find the 680 is OK. It is really an upraded Handspring (Treo). I bought the 680 after trying a MIO A701 which is fine, but uses WM5.
The only real Palm phone I know of was the Tungsten W, but it was a bit clumbsy, and I had a Tungsten C which has the Wi-Fi rather than phone and bluetooth.
That said, it is nice to have a mobile phone with the features of a Palm PDA and the speed of the Palm OS.
I am trying to install TomTom Navigator software, and use it with a bluetooth GPS device, for SatNavigation.
Keep up the good work.

Have just bought TomTom Navigator 5, on eBay, and have installed it on my 680, as version 6 will not work yet. The software is foolproof, you can't install ver6 with ver5 maps. TomTom are very clever in that regard, so you can't rig things. You just have to pay the money to get things to work properly.
I use a TomTom Bluetooth GPS device, but interestingly the Navigator software can find the GPS but the Palm can't. However it works fine.

I also have upgraded. I am using a Win Media Center and a Treo 680. By the way, my 650 worked just fine on this set up before that . . I am syncing with outlook, no issues . .

well apparently it works for some and no others I wonder if its carrier specific somehow or just random bad luck?

It has nothing to do with the carrier, and should work with MCE. Suggest uninstall/reinstall the Palm Sync Software from the 680 disc and try again. I don't really think it is the MCE plugin that is the problem. Make sure that any software firewall authorises the sync software.

Default well I am a third time treo owner

The Treo 680 I have absolutely refuses to sync with Outlook on Windows media center. I am guessing those of us that can not sync have some small difference in our configuration on the 680 or PC.

Another one of the many issues my 680 has is that it locks up if I try to delete several hundred messages from the trash folder at once. I really wanted this to work as my treo 600 is on its last leg, but after the first one had battery problems (also a 680), hands up or fails to recognize the Infrared transfers and initialize Bluetooth without a battery removal and reset; well I give up as the second is has the same issues. I can now hang it up on command with a few normal keystrokes to check email.

Sad. I am off to hunt a windows based unit to try next.

Lets face it, MCE is not an operating system, its just a plugin attached to Windows XP Pro.

In fact, using Outlook as my perferred calender/contacts, I can cross synchronise from Outlook to Windows Mobile as well as Palm Treo 680.

If it works, it works!!

Stillrockin maybe you an artmunn could get together and compare your settings and see if that's the problem. Like I said before treo and MCE seems to be hit and miss on working or not. It would be nice to know what the secret is because I'm still on the fence keeping 650 or moving to 750 or 680 or blackjack or whatever and the MCE issue and my doubts about active sync installation are what's keeping me from making a move right now.

Actually, I believe that is the difference! You see, I am using IMAP email servers which sync to the treo over the air, and appear in Outlook when I open it. I don't set Outlook to sync any mail as there is no need to . . . . I am syncing Calendar, notes and tasks however . . . . . If you ever get used to IMAP, you will never want POP3 again . . .
