Unfortunately, I've decided to give up and go with a Windows Mobile unit, the Cingular 8525. It's great! I contacted officers at Palm but they never even had the courtesy of sending a reply. To hell with them.

Just to let you knowthat the new Palm software (Treo) does support Outlook syncrhronisation with MCE 2005, as I have it installed. In the old version with the PDA, Palm used a third party software to enable Outlook synchronisation.

Yes, its the Palm software that comes with the 680. The old software for the PDA's (Tungstens) did not offer an option to synchronise with outlook, the default was Palm Desktop. The Treo 680 is really a smartphone with a difference; it uses Palm OS, but many of the features of the operating system are a hybrid between the original Palm OS and Windows Mobile.
eg. 680 now recognises an SD card which is formatted by a Windows XP, whereas the Tungsten PDA needed a third party program (Card Export) to load data on to an SD card.
What the whole issue boils down to is: do you prefer a Microsoft OS on a handheld, or the Palm system. There really is no comparison - chalk and cheese. The Palm system is fast and small and doesn't use much memory. The Windows system works just like a regular computer. It is bulky and slow, compared with Palm and uses a lot of resources. If you have been used to a Palm system, the Windows OS can be a pain.

But, at least the Windows Mobile system synchronizes with XP Media Center Edition!

I have a Treo 680, and the Palm software is loaded on to Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, and it synchronises perfectly with selected Outlook.

Lets face it, MCE is not an operating system, its just a plugin attached to Windows XP Pro.

In fact, using Outlook as my perferred calender/contacts, I can cross synchronise from Outlook to Windows Mobile as well as Palm Treo 680.

    If it works, it works!!

Thanks for the response bigpons. I have been thinking about migrating to the 680. No decision yet. How do you like your 680? Did you have a palm phone before?
