Default Worth switching from 650 to 680?

Cingular is offering an upgrade from the 650 to the 680 for $74.99. Worth the switch? I LOVE my 650.

I had not seen that. Is it on line or at the cingular store. Does it include trading your 650 in? You can find the 680 on ebay for $400.00 after rebates for 2 year extension of contract or free after rebates with new contract. I like my 650- also but am thinking about 680 or 750 or blacKjack. As far as the 680 read about it in the threads here in ET and make up your mind.

I bought a 680 outright from Cingular; no contract! The only thing I miss is battery life! The 650's battery rocked! The recent patch and meter reset found here in these threads help a lot, but the battery life isn't close to what I got with the 650. With that said, the extra memory, form factor, slight improvements have made it worth the upgrade to me. Buying outright, meant I got to keep my grandfathered medianet plan vs PDA connect which is twice as expensive! Figuring I would save $20 per month, made buying outright seem like the best choice over a two year contract with a $40.00+ month charge for data, that is no faster than what I already have . . if your a heavy data user (I am) you might consider Sprint, and the 700. I think they have the best prices on data and EVDO is much faster than EDGE . .

Also, I should mention, that I got a discount through my employer that saved quite a bit over buying direct from Palm . . .

Well the sprint service hgere is horrible. You cant drive acroos town from east to west or vice versa without dropping calls on the main east west route with towers all over the place. And I want to have gsm/hsdpa/umts whener the latter gets here. Also need to travel to Europe.

I bought my Treo the day it came out. I could not get it with a Cingular contract at the time because I am already in a contract from when I bought my 650 back in April. Unfortunately the 650 was lost in July and I had been using an old RAZR that I had before the 650. Well I am very much pleased with teh 680. I installed the new patch for the battery and did notice a huge difference. Before the patch I would come home after working all day and my battery level would be in the 60-70% range. After the patch it's been in the 88-91% range. A huge difference if you ask me.

I like the fact that the 680 has more memory, it is a little smaller than the 650 and the fact that it has no antenna only makes it cooler. People at work say that it can't be a treo because it has no antena. The cool factor to them once I prove it's a Treo only sky rockets and then they realize they are on Sprint and can't get it. LOL

Battery life is extended with a patch for the camera firmware. See the treo website.

Default Palm resets at noon

My Palm now resets at noon everyday. It used to just light up at noon (some preference in there, some dormant alarm maybe?) for no reason (no alarm, no nothing; my 600 did the same thing).

Now it lights up at noon and conveniently soft resets itself.

This started after I applied the Camera Update 1.0 patch last week.

This phone is having way more problems than my 600 ever did, and I'm not even going into how sluggish this new OS is compared to the 600.

If you LOVE your 650, DO NOT get a 680. You might LIKE it, but you definitely won't LOVE it.

There are lots of little things they did to screw up the OS. It's sluggish, not as intuitive, and little features were deleted/altered just enough to drive you crazy.

It's evident ACCESS/PALM has left Garnet to die a slow, agonizing death. I am gonna check out the 750w when it''s released, not to mention the iPhone. At least those OS's are somewhere near the 21st century.

Cool!
I replied in your other post about the Patch causing the reset. I did a google search about the 680 patch causing resets, and came up with nothing. At noon or otherwise. I have had a lot of Palm devices over the last 10 years! And I have seen my share of resets! Every one of these resets have eventually been tied to 3rd party apps. Sometimes its an app that isn't compatible with the OS I am running. Sometimes its an app that doesn't play nice with another app, or its two apps set to do something at the same time.
I saw where you said your 600 would light up at noon, but it wouldn't reset . . . I am wondering what sofware you installed on the 680 that was a carry over from the 600, and if it is compatable with the 680? FWIW, if you ever find yourself performing a hard reset, I would be curious if you still experienced the Treo resetting at noon with nothing more than a factory install. If it doesn't, you can bet its either a 3rd party app or the setting of an app . . .

Further still, If you really want to solve the issue, I would suggest performing a back up of your current set up, and then renaming or moving that back up folder to another location. Then perform a hard reset, and leave it with the factory install for a day. If you still have issues, then its time to pay Cingular/Palm a visit. If its stable, then I would add one app back. Still stable? Add another the next day! When you identify the app that is making your Treo reset at noon, I would get rid of it in a hurry, remove it from your back up folder that you moved/renamed and reinstall all other apps from your back up.

Hope this helps and if you do it, how about posting the results here. I am curious as to what is causing that noon reset . . .
