4 GB SD Cards and the 700p
Hi, all. I just received a 4 GB SD card from the Everything Treo store today, and for the THIRD time, I'm having trouble with it. The first two times, I was just not careful: I picked up two different SD HC cards, which are apparently not the same thing. Those were not recognized by my 700p at all. I figured the third time would be the charm, though, because I ordered from the Everything Treo store, and the description line said "4 GB SD Card for Treo 650, 700p," etc.
I first noticed trouble when I first inserted the card and tried to format it. I could NOT name the card. I kept getting "Invalid Volume Name" or something like that. Then, after copying my music and other files from my 1 GB card, I noticed that the 700p would be slow to recognize the card in the slot, and if I tried to load a playlist and play some MP3s, Pocket Tunes seemed to "lose track" of the songs.
After my first two bad attempts at getting a 4 GB card, I wrote to Palm's support department, and they said that the largest card the 700p is capable of taking is a 2 GB card. But I figured the person who responded to me must be wrong when I saw the 4 GB card in the Everything Treo store. Now I don't know what to think!

From what I understand, no Treo takes anything higher than a 2 gb card. You can "hack" the Treo to accept them, but it is a fairly involved process having to mess with the ROM of the Treo. Doable, but I won't do it in mine...it can "brick" it.

actually look on your treo 700p under INFO. If you see FAT32 your treo should support a 4gb sd card.
It sounds like the card might be having connection problems between you treo 700p and the sd card. You might want to contact ET and see if you can return it. Or your read and write speed isn't fast enough. Thus the lag.
Also, Palm states that their devices only support 2 GB on all devices. But the newer treo can support 4GB cards. Id on't know why palm states that but I think it is because they don't want to have phone calls about "how do I get this 4GB card to work?"
Also, if trying to run the 4gb card on a 650 you will need to rom hack the device.
I have a 4GB transcend 150x SD card running on my treo 700p.

Hi guys, can you tell me where I can find the 4gb hack? I own a 700P and it won't read anything over 2gbs.
thanks,,,

If you have a Verizon phone and the latest firmware update, it should support 4 Gbyte SDHC cards. I have a 4 Gbyte SDHC in my 700p and it works fine after the update.
