700P from Verizon
Well I've had it. I have used Palm devices since the original Palm Pilot came out. I have owned at least a half a dozen different devices including my 700P from Verizon. What a piece of crap this phone has turned out to be. I have had to replace it twice and now it has started locking up at least six or seven times a day - just when I really need to get something from the device. You either have to wait for it to unlock or do a warm reboot. I've tolerated the duplicated and triplicated records when I sync with Outlook, but this is the final straw.
My contract with Verizon expires 9/9/08 for both 700P's that my wife and I purchased. They are both going into the pool on that day. I am switching phones and providers.
When I call about the issue, Verizon says I have to unload all third party software and hard reset in order to be sure it isn't one of those software programs - the ones that have been working fine for over a year that is - before they will even consider replacing this fine piece of junk.
Well, if anyone from Palm is listening - please cross me off your Christmas card list - I will never own another Palm device.
Same thing for Verizon - terrible customer service.
Sorry, had to rant - end of rant - have a great day....

I am very surprised you feel that way about Verizon. I have had Verizon close to 6 maybe 7 years now and feel they do a great job. When I first got my 700P I will agree that it drove me crazy sometimes. But I can say that Verizon and Palm walked me through all my trouble spots with no prblems. Maybe you just got one from a bad batch of Treos. And talked to a Verizon C/S person who was having a bad day. I hope it gets better for you.

Yeah, I agree about Verizon. They've been wonderful about standing behind a product, who's problems aren't really even their fault! They've religiously handed me "brand new" replacements when my device(s) fail. I'm not sure many other providers would be as generous. And then there's their coverage area! Another plus in my opinion!

I finally convinced them to send me a replacement phone after several phone calls and a visit to the store when the device froze. The manager at the store pushed through the replacement for me.
So far so good - the new device hasn't frozen once so far...

help me unlock 700p
Is there any way to unblock or unlock a palm 700p verizon and use it on another carrier? It is not a GSM phone?
-
Hi and welcome to ET:
A) No, CDMA carriers don't allow "foreign" phones on their network that I am aware of. There was talk last year the feds were going to force the issue in the US, but I haven't seen anything since.
B) CDMA phones cannot be unlocked as a GSM device can and even if you could, refer to A, above.
C) the 700p is a CDMA phone.

stevetaz can you unlock a 700p to work on metro pcs

jlgartee, as far as I know, the 700p is a CDMA device and they cannot be unlocked as GSM devices can be. The issue is will MetroPCS activate another device registered to a different provider and will that provider allow it too? Technically it can be done, but it is entirely up to the provider.
I understand the MeroPCS roams on the Verizon network. Is the 700p you are referring to a Verizon or a Sprint phone? If Verizon, maybe? You really should be asking MetroPCS if they will/can do it. Carriers really don't like activating phones they didn't provide and that is why MetroPCS sells phones (I didn't see any Palms available, but I thought I read they do sell them). BTW...I found this on their FAQs page:
I already have a wireless phone. Can I activate it with MetroPCS service?
The phones available with MetroPCS service were specifically chosen because of their optimal performance on the MetroPCS network.
You could try contacting the people here as they do sell a 700p flashed for MetroPCS for $280:

I am not sure if they are connected to the MetroPCS provider or if they are a third-party.
Let us know how you make out.....

Yes....
You can have a palm treo 700p unlocked/flashed to metroPCS I just did it yesterday and I have phone, text, and internet. Only thing I lack is the picturemail. It doesnt matter if the esn is bad or not. The number to reach the guy is 248-694-1166 and ask for Vince. Also if you cannot get to him he has expidited mail service to get you phone flashed. One last thing serious inquiries only he is very busy. He also does great work and only charges 55 bucks or less. Hope that helps.
