Exclamation 700p issues?

Ok so I have been reading ALOT about the 700p 700wx and so on...What is the deal with the 700p? Everyone has made it sound like a cursed phone. How does everyone really feel about this unit? Since its release are their any updates to download for it.

The file system bites and therefore causes the device to pause on occasion while the DB cache clears - that is the big hang up that has been with the Treo line since the 650 - it also includes the Cntro.

A good device, stable otherwise and with a bit of work, the stability issue may be minimized.

I've noticed the slight pauses(maybe a second or two at the longest) every so often, but it's not bad. I am very happy with mine....

I received my 700wx I got on eBay for a steal, not sure if I'm going to keep the windows OS or trade it in for Palm OS...not sure. Any suggestions with what OS to go with?

Really is a personal call. There is 1 700P, 2 Centros and 1 800W in the house. I prefer the Palm OS and enjoy the Centro; however, due to the amount of usage my devices receive during the day, I really wanted a device capable of multi-tasking. I have had a few WM phone/PDAs and did not like any of them. The 800W though keeps the style of device I like. What I do not like about WM is that it is not one-handed in many respects and that to accomplish the same steps that POS does requires a few more key presses to acomplish the same result. The 800W also has an alarm issue - sometimes it sounds, sometimes it does not. The GPS requires cell phone service, it works ok though. Battery life is not the best, but I am getting 6 hours before a charge is required. Stabilitiy - hands down a winner there. What I cannot get with WM that I had with POS - call recordining capability; the recording of phone calls cannot be done. Email: not a real problem. If one is a ChatterEmail user, then FlexMail is the one to look at - PUSH/IDLE IMAP works very well with that application.

Once I finally got a "Stable" 700p (it took going through FOUR!), I have to say I'm pretty happy with the device. I've cut back as much as possible on my third party apps, and use the device primarily for the Phone (Ear Speaker still never works properly, forcing me to make 90% of my calls on Speaker Phone), Contacts, Calander, Texting, Watching Videos on Kinoma, Surfing the web, (Cutting and Pasting Text and Photos) etc., etc.

The lag time for me however is substantial. I have close to 1,100 entries in my Contacts list, most with associated photos, and I notice if I make a change to one of them further down the alphabet (S thru Z), it can take 15 - 20 seconds minimally of lag time for the change to be initiated.

Overal, I'm finally fairly happy with the device, and plan on keeping it for another year or so, at which time I'm planning on switching my office over to a MAC, and will probably change to the IPhone at that time.
