i'm thinking about putting down $500 to purchase a treo. i have no decided to get the p or w version. i would like to get the 700p, since i would to hotsync it to my palm desktop calender. but in other hands, theres more applications for the 700w. which i can pick up a wi-fi sd card to surf the net. i do not intent to purchase the data plan. can i still surf the internet? what are your thoughts on a new buyer?

I don't believe there are more apps for PocketPC than Palm. If there are, I'd say that you'd be more than pleased with the amount of software available for the Palm OS. Just visit the
Software Store and you'll see a large selection of apps.
As somone who uses Palm desktop, it kind of makes sense to get the Palm Treo 700p. The only caveat would be your need for WiFi. The 700p does not support WiFi or the WiFi card. With a WiFi card, you can only surf where there are HotSpots. In that case, you could use your laptop. Sprint has the lowest pricing on data and EvDO is a great feature of both the p and w. The 700p is a fast device and Palm has made some nice improvements. You also get a nice software bundle - PocketTunes, Docs To Go, etc.
I just finished my
700p review. It might help with your decision. On the flip side, the
Treo 700w review compares and contrasts Windows vs Palm OS a bit more.
If you have any specific questions regarding differences between the two platforms, feel free to ask.
Good luck.
