700p Problems!
Ok, so here is the deal. I bought a Treo 700p a couple of years ago from Verizon. At first I loved it but was having all kinds of issues with wireless sync. Every two weeks, my e-mail would stop updating and then one day, could never reconnect to my mail again.
Annoyed, I downgraded my phone. However now, I reactivated it. I downloaded the update for Hotsync which works great except now, I cannot find an e-mail client to use to connect to comcast.
I tried installing Versamail but once I hotsync, the device enters a constant reboot cycle forcing a soft reset and lost data.
I then tried installing chattermail which is doing the exact same thing.
Everywhere I turn, it seems that the "help" is vague. Palm has not support contacts and when I try to "Livechat" it kicks me out. When I call Verizon, they tell me my only option is "Mobile Email" which is the worst e-mail client I have ever seen. If I didn't buy this phone years ago, I would feel severely ripped off.
So, I have now turned to you guys for help. How in the heck do I get an e-mail client installed on this device? I just want to get my e-mail, be notified when new mail arrives and my inbox to be up to date.
I am using Comcast for my e-mail currently and am on the Verizon Wireless network.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Update: I was able to get Versamail installed via the original CD. I had to literally downgrade everything including the Hotsync software to get it done, but it worked. I have my e-mail account set up through my Comcast account. Can send and receive, all is well.
My next question is, should I upgrade the version? If so, where is the best download location?
I also have some Autosync questions. I have it set to check automatically every 30 mins between 8AM - 11PM, Sunday - Sunday. I have it to alet me of new mail and failures but it is not alerting me of new mail. I sent a test, waited 30 mins, nothing. Waited 45 mins, nothing. When I manually checked it, there was my test mail. Is there anyway for it to actualy notify me of new mail?

I would keep it at that release and then 'cause I really like ChatterEmail, I would reinstall it and make really sure I used the proper settings. A question - did you execute a hard reset before installing Versasmell?

Thanks for the response. I had to do a hard reset 4 times. Every version of Versamail and Chattermail that I downloaded sent my phone into a neverending reboot. This is why I had to use the original CD that came with it to get Versamail installed.
Versamail audibly alerts me now, which is good. I wish I could get a visual notification to work but alas, not going to happen.
As of right now, I finally got the phone set up the way I need it to be and it also seems to be stable. If only I could get some decent e-mail notifications, I would say it is perfect.

With ChatterEmail, did you delete the folders on the card? There may be a message in there that is corrupt. As for notifications, have you looked at Butler?

Never even heard of Butler but will look it up now.
I was able to get Chattermail installed (the free trial). It was working fine except that when I had it set to sweep my Comcast account ever 30 mins, when it came time to sweep it, it rebooted the phone and sent it into the neverending reboot. I had to Hotsync it back to the way it was before I installed Chattermail
I am hesitant to buy the $40 full version if this is the performance I can expect.
Ben, you have been great help for me as I am still learning the ins and outs of my Treo. Thanks again!

I suggest killing the ChatterEmail folders on the card, or rather, rename them and then start it up again - you may have to reconfigure some settings. ChatterEmail itself is an exceedingly stable application. Also, how much free memory do you have on the device? A lack of free memory also causes resets.

Some more details about what happened.
I actually do not have an SD card right now. I bought the phone a while ago, used it for a month and then disconnected it. I have only had reconnected now for about 3 days. Everything I do is on ROM as I have not had time to get the card yet.
At the time I installed Chattermail, I had installed 2day, ZLauncher and Uninstall Manager. Once I installed Chattermail, I had run UM to remove Versamail fearing a conflict. I configured the free trial of Chattermail and connected to my Inbox no problem. I configured my preferences and everything seemed stable. When it came time to do the first sweep, it shut itself off and rebooted over and over forcing a hard reset.
According to the phone, after all those apps were installed, I had 53.1M available of system memory so I don't think memory caused it.
Right now, I am going to uninstall Versamail, not install any other apps. Re-install Chattermail and let it sit for the day. Assuming that it stays stable, I will re-install other apps one by one and see which one is causing the conflict.
As of right now I am thinking, actually hoping, it was just a fluke.
However, I have noticed that Palm's site is not functioning well. I get errors trying to DL Chatter from their site and actually had to go directly to the download link from my phone's browser. I think Palm is trying to block the free trials and possibly altering the installs to prevent it from working. I don't think the program is at fault as I have read nothing but glowing reviews about it. I believe it more to be a Palm block because they need the money from the purchase.

53mb on a 700P? Goodness. I never saw that much free memory on my 700p.

Well I don't have nearly the amount of apps everyone else does. Mine currently only has the stock software that came with the phone, Uninstall Manager, Versamail and Bejewled. I have removed everything else.
As of right now it has 53.1 free out of 62.8
