Jim:
That is just ridiculous. If your provider told you to do that I suggest you either try asking to speak with a tier 2 technician or find another provider. Doing a daily reset in that manner solves nothing but gets you off the phone quick enough. They are obviously not interested in diagnosing the problem.
In response to the OP, you probably have a corrupted email and from what others experience, that is not totally abnormal. Just before my company dumped the Treo platform, I had this happen to me. What I had to do was identify which email it was. I tried the database tool in Outlook, but it did not help. I knew when the resetting began so using Outlook on my desktop I began by moving all emails from that date forward to a new temporary folder that did not sync to the Treo. I hard reset the device and synced and sure enough, no reset. I then began to move groups of five back to the regular email folder, synced and when it crashed I just narrowed it down. Solved the problem.
Others might tell you to move to a third-party email program like Chattermail as VersaMail is known for corrupt databases. Your choice, but not using a feature like email on a Treo because of a reset is kind of silly when it can be repaired or replaced with a better program (which you would have to pay for).
Just my $.02....
