Default 700P Restarts after missed call

Has anyone had this happen, and what is the fix for it? It have this one for about 1 week, and it was working perfectly fine. My Treo 650 used to shut down and restart if I tried to access Versamail, so I just didn't use email and all was fine. But this little issue is not going to work for me! Does anyone know of any updates or fixes to solve this???

Thanks in advance...

My service provider told me that this would be fixed by removing the battery for thirty seconds and that it should be done every morning. I don't know if that is the cure that Palm would suggest but just try to contact Palm...

Jim:

That is just ridiculous. If your provider told you to do that I suggest you either try asking to speak with a tier 2 technician or find another provider. Doing a daily reset in that manner solves nothing but gets you off the phone quick enough. They are obviously not interested in diagnosing the problem.

In response to the OP, you probably have a corrupted email and from what others experience, that is not totally abnormal. Just before my company dumped the Treo platform, I had this happen to me. What I had to do was identify which email it was. I tried the database tool in Outlook, but it did not help. I knew when the resetting began so using Outlook on my desktop I began by moving all emails from that date forward to a new temporary folder that did not sync to the Treo. I hard reset the device and synced and sure enough, no reset. I then began to move groups of five back to the regular email folder, synced and when it crashed I just narrowed it down. Solved the problem.

Others might tell you to move to a third-party email program like Chattermail as VersaMail is known for corrupt databases. Your choice, but not using a feature like email on a Treo because of a reset is kind of silly when it can be repaired or replaced with a better program (which you would have to pay for).

Just my $.02....

Well put. At the most I would delete the Versasmell data file AFTER backing up the device and then going from there. In the for what it is worth area though, Jeff Gibson of www.gotreosoftware.com has a new application called Safeguard (http://gotreosoftware.com/products/safeguard/). Another approach though is to download/install DBFixit and see what it shows - in the unregistered version it shows errors; in the registered version it fixes errors in the Palm databases.

Thanks Steve and Benjie, but in reference to the first part of the OP, my problem was with the missed calls. Of utmost importance to me is that a cell phone act like a cell phone. If I miss calls, I am not going to be concerned about email etc. I gave up on email after having problems with Versamail, then installing Agendus Mail (which was expensive) and more problems. If I use it as cell phone it seems to work great and some limited use of Palm OS software is ok. Having the Palm Desktop is convienent and Hot Sync seems to work most of the time without problems.

In short I suppose that I am ranting about reliability; extras are great and I love having them, I buy things because of them, but reliability is paramount. If they don't work or don't always work they are a drawback and sometimes an extreme drawback.

I haven't given up on Palm yet and I am hoping that their next iteration will be something that I can use. From what I have seen on this site and others, they are not fixing the bugs, only producing more hardware the harbors the same bugs. We don't know yet how the 800p will be but I for one would like to see it operate for awhile before I buy into it. I guess I don't trust Palm right now.

Sorry for the long post, but maybe someone will derive benefit from my problems.

I am on my third Treo 700p in three years. I've used the Palm OS for many years and been pleased with it. However, I am wondering if maybe Palm hasn't exceeded their abilities with the cell phone combination.
