I inquired about a 700p at my local Sprint store this past Thursday. 2 of the 3 salespersons barely heard of it ... kept trying to sell me a 650. The 3rd said it wouldn't be until August til they had any 700p units. Plus the reception around here with Sprint is ugly.

Much as I hate to - I just may stick with Cingular. Dunno

It's true that Sprint CS can be a real pain in the rear. But truth is, there are just some that do a really good job. For example, my phone was activated with the wrong phone number. The first time I contacted CS i was transferred 3 times and hung up after 5 minutes on hold. I called back 2 minutes later and spoke with a different CSR and she was able to help me out and fix the problem in 5 minutes. Plus with Sprint's low rate plans, that's the reason I went with them.

I was also lucky to be able to switch my plan to the SERO plan.

I agree that Sprint CS is pretty much hit and miss. Overall, the first-line CSR's aren't that great, much like many of the reps in some of the stores. I think those jobs are like many retail or service-industry jobs--they get a lot of turnover and people who fill them see them as "jobs", rather than "professions". Sprint's my 3rd company here in the states (started with Verizon, then went to Cingular) and their initial CS does seem to be below the other two companies. I've had some billing issues but it honestly does seem to be due to the crazy way their billing system is set up. There are, however, some good people there. I've been with Sprint for just over a year but my 2-year agreement was reset this past September when I got a discount put on my account. I wasn't eligible for any rebates whatsoever but wanted to see what they could do for my interest in a 700p. My first couple calls were unsuccessful but I kept at it. I eventually got an offer of one for $349 and a tweak in my plan to save me a little more there, too.

Default Upgrade to 700P

I am really tempted to call and upgrade to 700p from the 650. I just cannot justify paying $500- $600 for it. My contract will not be up until November. What kind of discount, if any, can I get? I'm really tempted.

Informative Discounts available

Hey all-

New to the Treo world and this forum has helped alot so I thought I would add some advice:

I called Sprint and asked to speak to the RENTENTION DEPT. After speaking with the rep and letting them know I was thinking about switching to Verizon, I received a discounted Treo 700p for $349 total. No activation, no upgrades, just a new contract. Not too shabby!!!

Welcome, Barry, and congratulation on your new Treo.

The good deals got me. I had no intention of getting one but heard about the deals Retention was giving. I had absolutely no hope of getting a break (only 8 months into contract & just got my 650 in Dec) but was POLITE & PATIENT and got a good deal. After selling my 650 for $300, I really only paid $50 for the 700.

Default Spint Blows

I was a Sprint customer for years and hated both their wireless service and customer service. I didn't know any better. Then I switched to Verizon and MAN what a difference. They treat you with respect, are professional and knowledgeable. Now looking back, Sprint was so ghetto and low class. Just walk into one of their stores and look around at both the customers and the people working there! They all look like they should be outside mowing the lawn.

One experience sums it up for me. I went into Radio Shack a few years back and asked to look at a particular Sprint phone. The 25 year old guy working there looked at me and said, "do you have a job? what about your credit? is your credit good?" I replied yes to all the above and then he laughed and said, "then why the heck are you looking at Sprint phones? You should be looking at Verizon!"

I have heard quite a few people complain about Sprint's CS and I've had my bad experiences with them too but Verizon left a bad taste in my mouth a couple years ago. When I came back to the States, I didn't know the 1st thing about the cellular companies here. I believed the Verizon commercial saying they had the best coverage so I went in to check them out. I was around Philly at the time but would be coming to South Carolina. They had service in both areas, so I said great, sign me up. I got a phone and a PDA (the PDA was so big I didn't want to hold it up to my ear), with a shared voice/data plan between the two. I was told they coudln't give me an SC area code, as we were too far north but, if I took a Philly area code, I could get it switched when I got to SC in two weeks at no charge. I specifically asked about it twice more before completing the sale. I also called the store back a couple times to confirm. I get to SC and go into the local Verizon store to get my number changed, they say no problem, no charge...and there wasn't for the new numbers...there were 2 cancellation charges on my bill, though! I talked to everyone in the country who gets a Verizon paycheck on the phone and was consistently told I had been given wrong info by the reps and there was nothing I could do about it. Hey, I needed the phones, so I paid. I used to go over my minutes some months and it was like I was making another car payment. I will say their coverage was great. Co-workers were always borrowing my phone when we were out and about when they had no coverage. Coverage was great...except in my home. Nobody could reach me at home. I'd have signal according to the display but nobody could get me. One day a friend was over and she got like 10 calls in an hour....3 of them for people trying to track me down. I asked and she said she had Sprint. I was at a Sprint store the next day.

Default Verizon Rules

Although Verizon is more pricey you get what you pay for I guess. I've had nothing but great experiences in the 7 or 8 years I've been with them. I just got full credit for a motorola phone that was over a year old(long story), traded up to a 650, traded for a 700w and since the 700p wasn't available at the time, they let me trade a 3rd time even though I was 10 days beyond the 15 day swap period. Whenever I've had a problem their CS has been very helpful. I almost never experience dropped calls. I had my service primarily in L.A. and now in the DFW area. And no I don't work for them! I "found" my P after stalking several stores in my area. This was a week ago so availability may have improved.
