| Applications button gone crazy Hello.
Hoping someone has a solution. For some reason my applications button no longer reliably brings up my applications list, instead it launches the memo application! If I keep trying eventually will bring up the list of applications, but this is really annoying. I don't even see a place where I could have assigned memos to that button (and don't remember doing so either!). I have tried a soft reset, and I will do a hard reset if necessary, but I would prefer to solve it so that I know why it happened and how not to make it happen again Thanks for any suggestions.
Here's a list of third party apps I am trying: Splash Suite, IM+, Toccer, Butler, I was trying SNAP! but as I suspected it was involved somehow (I had been using it when this weirdness started) I deleted it. Problem didn't go away though.

| How did you delete Snap? Do you have any uninstaller app installed at all (didn't see one in your list)? They are the most reliable way to completely delete apps and all the files and prefs changes associated with them.

| Hi,
I just uninstalled it by deleting it from the menu that comes up for treo: the one where you can delete things, reassign applications to different categories, etc. This is not something I had considered that the way to uninstall an application could be handled better by a third party application than by the native delete function. Is there any way for me to figure out what files may have been leftover from deleting snap?
I do have the free program Filez installed. Should I have used that instead for deleting apps?
Thanks for any guidance. I am still learning my way around.

| FileZ is pretty good in that you can set a filter by the creator of an app. That can help you identify files left over or orphaned when you delete with the standard launcher, like you did.
There are also some good uninstaller apps out there. Uninstall Manager is a good one (I use it). If you have it installed, then you install some other app, it groups all the files associated with the new app you bought/tried, so it can delete everything if you decide to get rid of the new app. There are others out there, too. Try going to the ET store and search for uninstall.

| Is it too late for this particular problem - installing an uninstaller? I have everything backed up, is a hard reset my likely last resort here. I did play around in FileZ and filtered by creator. I saw one or two other things that looked related and I deleted them, but it still didn't cure the strange behavior of the applications launch key.

The 1st 2 apps I'd recommend to anyone would be an uninstaller and a backup app (which you already have). A hard reset might not be a bad idea in your case...not only will it fix your problem but, if you're getting an uninstaller, you can install that first so it can group the files of your other apps.
Are you up to speed on doing a hard reset but keeping your PIM data?

I would have thought so if you hadn't asked So now, if you have some steps to follow I would be grateful. Don't worry about being too basic with me, this is my first treo. I've used a Palm Vx for years prior to this, but didn't have a lot of issues that required hard resets. I had applied some palm updates/patches, so I hope a hard reset and a subsequent hot sync will bring those back. Will I have to reinstall apps?
Thanks for asking and all your help in general
Lauren

It's probably C:\Program Files\palmOne\YOUR USERNAME\Backup. Move that folder to your desktop, renaming it something like "Old". Next, follow the steps in this Palm KnowledgeBase article for a hard reset. Then, perform a hotsync, which will establish a new folder for you. Quote:

That way, it will group everything from apps you subsequently add. You can install from the apps in your "old" folder or check for the latest versions, which is always a good idea.
When you say updates/patches, what are you referring to? Firmware?

| Ok after all this I decided to check Butler button settings again and found that the home button had been associated with Memos!!!!!!! Very annoyed. I thought I had checked this already. Nonetheless, I did install UM as you suggested. I avoided the hard reset. However, your advice on proper steps to prepare for a hard reset may come in handy in the future. Thank you for taking all this time.
By updates/patches, I meant things like DST patch and other patches listed for verizon 700p listed on mypalm.com site for my phone

| No problem. I'm glad you got it sorted out and were able to avoid the hard reset.
