Battery Charge Issues - Treo Forums

I'm getting ready to buy a 700p today now that I'm eligible for a phone upgrade. My husband has a 650, so I'm somewhat familiar with the Treos.

I've been reading that there are battery charge issues on the 700p - that many people get the extended battery because the charge on the regular one does not last very long, and much shorter than on the 650.

Now, I'm probably one of 5 people on earth who has no intention of using the phone for internet/email/IM/etc. My husband's been operating his 650 w/o a data plan for over a year and has no problems - the only program that he connects for is a traffic program that costs him about 1.5 cents every time he connects. I basically want the Treo for a phone, calendar, organizer, and occasional mp3s. Should my battery charge in theory last longer then? Is it all the data usage that burns through it so quickly?

It is the data that shortens the battery charge but with the stock battery I last about 7:00am to 6:00pm with limited mp3ing, data usage.

I know if I listen to mp3s for 5hours straight my stock battery from full charge will be at about 11% after five hours.

I think you'll be fine with the stock battery.

Most user who get the extended battery is because they are watching movies, listening to music while playing/surfing the web at the same time for about 5hours straight.

You should be fine with what you want to do with your 700p. I have to warn you, though: MP3s tend to be something you play more than you think you will, once you get a collection going. The second-best thing I got myself, accessory-wise, was an extra battery (just a regular one, not the long-life battery) for my 650 (which I now use in my 700p). All I have to do is swap out the dead one for a charged one and off I go. The only drawback is that you can't charge the battery unless it's in the Treo and the Treo is plugged in. Which leads me to the best accessory I got for my Treo: an external battery charger. Now I can charge one battery while I have a fresh one in the Treo. I think I paid $29 for the extra battery, and $21 for the external charger. Small potatoes for making my Treo ten times more flexible.
