Battery Power...

I just got my 700p from eBay, and the phone works fine, but last night I gave the battery the first stress test, at work listening to music for 7-8 hours. My battery only lasted for 5 hours of music.
Is this normal?
Or should I get a new battery for the phone?

Also on a side note, I cant figure out how to make the screen shut off after a few minutes and the touch screen to lock while its in my pocket listening to music. If I dont have music playing it does this on its own, but while music is playing the whole phone is "On". I know if I can turn off the touch screen and the screen it self that would give me more battery life.
Can anybody help on that?
