Default Buying Unistall Mgr do I need cleanup and/or UnGuard?

Based on Kdallen, Benjie and others, it appears the main reason to buy Uninstall Manager is the support from Northglide is superior to Rogame (destaller), right?

Do I need cleanup and/or UnGuard?
--Cleanup (Seem unnecessary, if you have a new Treo and revert to a hard boot so only the original apps are installed. Add uninstall manager before and 3rd party app).

--UnGuard Backup (Seem unnecessary, if you HotSync and add all apps using "Palm Quick Install"). I though HotSync makes a backup, right?

Am I missing something about the usefulness of these two apps?

Cleanup - optional.

On Guard Backup - restore - if you are doing work that must be current at all times, then it is mandatory.

On Guard Backup works in real time - when the application is properly closed, it copies the data files and if so specified, the application itself to the SD card. Very important. Syncing to a computer backs up the device when it is done, not when the application is closed. I consider On Guard Backup/Restore to be the most important application on my device.

A hard reset is frankly unnecessary most of the time. A good installation monitoring program (UM/DeStaller Pro/ZLauncher) does a good job of deleting applications. Of the three, Uninstall Manger does the best. However, ZLauncher and UM can be integrated together and the team together makes a combination difficult to beat.

As for Cleanup - it does what it says, be careful though - it can save or break you.

My recommendation is to look at the neat Freak Pack and just purchase it.

Ben,

Does On Guard backup (which I assume backs up to the SD Card), change the conduits of the regular "Palm Hot Sync" backup? I'm very good about backing up daily to my destop/PC (Palm Software), however can see your point about the advatages of the "real-time" On Guard or Rescue? backup apps.

I just don't want to add anything that will interfere or change the reliability of my regulard Hot Sync performance, as I'd most certainly continue doing that in addition.

I apologize for taking so long to get back to you. On Guard Backup is device based and does not interact with the desktop in any way.

I second the recommendation of NeatFreak pack. One of the best program packages I've ever purchased. At the time, it didn't have the OnGuard backup. I use RescoBackup which is perfectly fine for me. I prefer that over the constant monitoring offered by OnGuard. Sometimes, I'd rather be able to just restore from a specific archive but that's just personal preference.

On Guard Backup is intended as a supplemental backup solution for on the go archiving of important data. In my situation, I spent a lot of time with HanDBase and duplicating the data collected would be very time consuming and at times impractical. Taking the time to manually backup those files during the day would be impractical and having it done via Resco Backup at the exiting of the application would be too time consuming. On Guard Backup is quick, painless and just plain works. In addition, installing the files via On Guard Restore is much faster than with Resco Backup.

On a device that is prone to resets, On Guard Backup may be considered a must have application.

Good point. For me, Resco is pretty good enough since I don't have or make that many changes during the day to require "always" backup capability. It would be overkill for me. I usually just wait for the backup if I need to do it during the day, especially before I install anything new.
