I could not hotsync media files from my 700p to my pc-windows xp-tried re-installing software, but then I tried hot sync from the treo menu versus the button on the cable--THAT worked! The only thing I had been trying was the button on the cable.

So now I have finally been able to clean 2 years of pics and vids off of my treo after major frustration.
    Thanks for the help!

You can also use a card reader, which is much, much faster with large files. In addition, there are a couple of applications that do a better job of moving data around that Hotsync does. In fact, the application is called "Card Reader" and Google might be your part-time friend.

Solution...I've struggled with the exact same issue via bluetooth, IR, and even cable hotsyncing. It has been an issue since I first got my treo 700p, and this has been on multiple versions of palm desktop.

The solution for me has always been very simple...just setup a new custom sync profile. Every time I get the "port in use by another application" error, I just go into my sync profiles and make a new one (usually as "custom", naming it "bluetooth2" or something similar), then delete the original. It only takes a few minutes and it's a heck of a lot easier than resets, etc.

At worst, you'll have to re-broadcast the bluetooth connection and reconnect to your computer...relatively simple.

This happens to me about once every 10 syncs.
