Cannot hotsync 700p anymore???
I cannot hotsync my 700p anymore using Windows XP. It used to work and I don't remember changing any settings.
When I attach my palm to the usb cable and push the hotsync button, the palm goes to the hotsync screen indicating the last hotsync date. Nothing I do will make it hotsync.... any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

How many people use this computer? This happens at work occasionally and it's due to someone renaming a profile. Even though the software is installed it won't sync.
I would reinstall the Palm Desktop software, making sure the conduits are back in place. If you right-click the HotSync icon in the system tray is USB listed? Is it checked? Or does it only have Network, Serial, Modem, etc.?
On the device, is Cable/Cradle selected as the method of syncing?

The advice is post #2 is solid. I would also suggest trying to determine if your cable is the problem. First, try initiating the sync from the Treo, rather than the button on the cable. Is borrowing a cable an option? Is a bluetooth sync an option for you? They could also help isolate a faulty cable.

Also make sure the conduits are properly set. One set to do nothing = nothing done.

I've been having problems syncing with my Treo 700p too. I had it set up to sync via Bluetooth with my Mac Mini, and it worked the first few times. Now it refuses to connect, saying something like "the port is in use by another application". But I can't think of anything that's using it??

The problem with Bluetooth is that occasionally the port gets changed from a functioning port to a nonfunctioning port. Ensure the ports are correctly set and see what happens - it may take some playing. My setup uses Com4 for Bluetooth and Com3 for modem. Ben

I have the same problem with my 700p, and have been unable to hotsync via Bluetooth. My cable is fine; the problem appears to be the universal port on the phone. I've read several forum replies regarding hotsyncing via Bluetooth and followed the instructions with no success. I've tried both the Windows XP standard Bluetooth drivers and the BlueSoleil software which was provided with my Bluetooth dongle. I have also re-installed HotSync Manager. My palm and the computer communicate with each other, but the hotsync stops with a "unable to initiate hotsync because the selected port is in use by another application" message. The palm then reboots. I'm new to Palm, and have not installed any applications on my phone. Any help would be appreciated.

Ditto, I was given the phone by a college who bought a new Centrino. It is a Verizon phone but at the time without service. I previously used a PDA Zire z72 so all software, contacts, calendar entries etc were present. First time sync worked fine, phone picked up everything as it was on the Zire, although some apps stopped working, no great loss.
As soon I activated the phone service with Verizon the hotsynce function stopped working. Have tried different cables, IR and different PC the result is the same. Hot sync splash screen opens up, one icon goes to color and thats it, no msgs on PC, the only way out is to soft reset the phone.

Hi and welcome to ET:
If you loaded software from the Zire, I suggest you do a Hard Reset to clear the Treo and test to see if you can establish a Sync.
You should not load Zire software onto a Treo as they are not compatible and could be messing with drivers or something else that is contributing to the problem.

You might try a warm reset on the Treo - I take battery out - then put back in.
Also re-start XP
