Default cant access .mac mail with versamail (gmail works though...)

Hi, i just got the new treo and have tried on numerous attempts to access my .mac mail on VersaMail. I entered the all the account information correctly, but every time i try to get new mail, it says "connecting to IMAP server for about a minute or two, then i get the error message "a connection was made, but the server did not repond to the login attempt."

I entered my username & password correctly (do i need the @mac.com after my username? i tried the username both ways and neither works anyway...)

The server settings are correct too: mail.mac.com, smtp.mac.com.

Anyone have this problem as well or know how to fix?

Hello cabaki,

Difficult to say what the source of your issue may be but, according to the Palm Knowledge library article "Server and account settings for email service providers for VersaMail 3.5", the settings should be as follows:

Apple .Mac

* Type: IMAP
* User name: The first part of your email address before the "@mac.com"
* Incoming Mail Server: mail.mac.com
* Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.mac.com

Advanced ...

* Incoming Server Settings:
o Port Number: 110
o Use Secure Connection (SSL): No
* Outgoing Server Settings:
o Port Number: 25
o Use Secure Connection (SSL): No
o Use authentication (ESMTP): Yes. Requires username for ESMTP

Sincerely
Kevin

Thanks for the response, Kevin.

OK, so now it worked because I entered "POP" instead of IMAP.

But here's the thing....I have over 4,000 messages in my Inbox and once it connects, it starts loading all 4,000+ messages into my Inbox as new messages!

My account is an IMAP account, but i cant load the messages when i set it as IMAP, the server doesnt respond. And when i enter the advanced settings specified above, the server times out. Any idea why it works for POP and not IMAP? I;d rather use IMAP so i dont get the same new messages over again.

thanks!

Unfortunately, I'm far from an email expert and I may have to bump, but check the article Setting up VersaMail with a network connection for corporate email. Perhaps the information under the heading "Setting mail retrieval options for a POP or IMAP account" may apply to your situation.

Sincerely
Kevin
