Default Choosing an email client

I'm new to the smartphone world and just purchased my first Treo 700p.

I'm really digging it but know I have a ways to learn yet.

My first step was getting email to work on my Treo.

After configuring my Exchange 2003 server, I was able to get Versa mail to sync up with my Treo via Exchange ActiveSync. Pretty cool I thought. When I looked closer I noticed none of my sub folders in my Inbox that I created in Outlook were not transfered over. Just the immediate emails located in the Inbox. That's a bummer I thought as I organize my emails with sub folders under Inbox.

I played around for awhile and can't figure if it's possible to bring over the sub folders with email in them. Is this possible in VersaMail?

Are there other email clients that can do sub folders and do Exchange ActiveSync as well?

Thanks..

Frenchy

See if this one will do what you need: www.chatteremail.com.

Ben
Thanks for the link.
I downloaded chatteremail and installed it on my Treo with the Exchange feature.

I got it to connect to my server and I see it downloading emails to the Treo. As I watch it add emails to the Treo, I'm seeing a bunch of XML where the subject line should be. That's strange I thought and about 10 emails into it, my Treo restarts. I tried it 5 different times with the same results. This is the first and only app I installed on my Treo and I placed it internal as I don't have a SD card yet.

I then turned on IMAP on my Exchange server. A friend of mine thinks VersaMail will do sub folders with IMAP so I'm going to try that. I did try IMAP with ChatterEmail. It was able to retrieve emails fine but I didn't see sub folders or any settings to tell it to get sub folders so I was bummed.

I can't be the first person with a Treo who wants their sub folders with emails in them to sync up.

I'll post soon with my results of VersaMail and IMAP.

In the mean time, I'm going to contact VersaMail and ChatterMail to see if I can get some answers from them and post what I find.

Frenchy? As in the "Frenchy" that is in the Aces High II community?

<edit>

I'm using the test version of the same program that Ben referred you to--chattermail. I don't use an Exchange server, though. So, all I can say is that I do like the way it handles my Gmail accounts.

Nope, Frenchy as in the Jeep community .

When using chattermail to retreive email via IMAP, I didn't have any problems. Only with the Exchange ActiveSync. Still researching my questions and should have some answers to post soon.

I'm not at my computer that I connect my Treo to via USB cable and wondered this.

Does it make a difference if I setup VersaMail in the Treo Vs. the Versamail sofeware located on my computer?

Meaning are there more settings I can play with on the computer to configure things instead of on the Treo itself?

Is there a recommended way?

Lightbulb

OK, I figured this sub folder thing out.

The good news is that I can use VersaMail that came with my Treo with IMAP protocol. (Haven’t tried it with Exchange ActiveSync yet)

The problem was that I had sub folders under my Inbox folder. VersaMail and other mail clients didn't sync up these sub folders or give the option of doing this.

If I moved the sub folders in Outlook up to the same hierarchal level as Inbox, sent mail, etc then VersaMail will see the folders. Then I was able to tell VersaMail to sync those folders as well.

Just had to make some small changes in how I organize things in Outlook which is a small sacrifice.

I found no difference or advantage between using your computer or Treo to setup Versamail. (feel like I'm having a conversation with myself).

....and are you satisfied with the answers you're getting?

Just kidding. In all seriousness, I'm glad you were able to get yourself up and running with minimal trouble.
