I do not believe Sprint does pay as fly with PDA devices. Looks like the genius you purchased it from did not execute a system hard reset. Hope it ain't hot.

Sprint has some sort of pay as you go prepaid, I see the cards for 700 minutes and such at the checkout at safeway.

And metropcs (san jose, CA area) has the ability to flash any phone to work with their service. Any phone without a sim card can be used.

Yes, you can possibly purchase minutes to make calls, but this is a PDA. You will not be able to use all the functions of the device, if you can actually use the Treo on that service.

Regarding flashing a CDMA phone to another service? I doubt it. CDMA phones are locked to a carrier and even though some may claim to be able to "unlock" you may or may not have luck.

    BTW....from the Metro website:
Can I bring any cell phone to MetroPCS for WNP?

Only MetroPCS phones will work on the MetroPCS network. You will need to purchase a phone in a MetroPCS store or bring a MetroPCS phone you purchased at one of our authorized dealers to a MetroPCS store.

Doesn't look like this will work...

In a press release regional unlimited service carrier Metro PCS has announced the availability of the first official CDMA handset flashing service in the US.
The service, known as MetroFLASH allows customers with select handsets from Audiovox/UTStarcom, Samsung, Sanyo, Motorola, Kyocera, LG, and Pantech to take them to an authorized dealer or corporate store with the capability in order to program them for use on the network for a nominal one time fee of $30 with a free month of service included.
This is the first time a CDMA carrier in the US has offered such a service openly and is a very common practice in China, and Southeast Asia while the service is seen by many as a response to the recent trend by larger carriers to offer unlimited flat-rate service. The service is now available in every market except for Las Vegas and Bossier City, LA.

That is really swell, but you posted a June 27 press release and they have yet to update the website to reflect the change.

Plus, as a minor annoyance, remember that we are discussing a Palm Treo product. The press release was pretty specific about the limitaions:
The service, known as MetroFLASH allows customers with select handsets from Audiovox/UTStarcom, Samsung, Sanyo, Motorola, Kyocera, LG, and Pantech

So this helps the OP how????
