| Does anyone synch with ACT Software? I plan on using a blutetooth synch but I am not sure how to set up the system to synch properly. I have it working well using "Act Link 2.0" but the cables are giving me a hard time so some people in another thread suggested a bluetooth synch.
If you use ACT as a PIM, or if you know of any pros/cons, would you please let me know if you recommend this type of synch, thank you in advance! |

| Well I am a huge ACT user. I won't say fan because ACT drives me crazy with stability issues. However, I couldn't live (professionally) without it. I have sync'd Bluetooth with no problems. My problems stemmed from ACT for PalmOS and ACTLink 2.0. They just didn't move the data. I bit the bullet and paid for CompanionLink (companionlink.com) and it moves the PIM data to the existing palm apps. Works great on bluetooth or wire. The wire is faster though.
Good luck. (From Sage Software you'll need it.)

| Target,
I agree with you in the fact that we are both users, not fans! Just a little too quirky for me too!
Anyway, when I set up my bluetooth on my desktop, I go to the PIM managment and the drop down under what info to synch with only has three options:
No Synch
Synch w/ Microsoft Outlook
Synch w/ Microsoft Outlook Express
I cannot find where to synch with ACT. Can you offer any insight please.
Thank you,
Seone |

| Seone,
What PIM are you using; Palm desktop, ACT Link? Is your PIM made for ACT? I have tried just about all of them. I hope I will be able to help.

| Which ACT Version? Hey Y'all,
We just upgraded to ACT! 2008 (V10). This is their latest version and companion link and so forth is not needed. Although, I have set up ACT to sync, I have not done so yet because I have gotten use to using outlook again. We had ACT!6 (very old version-completely unsupported by Sage) which worked great with my HP 2215, but when I went to Windows Mobile 5, it was not compatible. Then obviously I went to Palm OS, by which time I was already getting use to outlook and just continued. Now I just sync ACT with outlook and it dumps it on my Treo. Well, when we upgraded, about a week ago, I was excited to only have to use 1 calender again, and like I said, I set it up and was about to sync, when I realized Im used to outlook and no one in the office can see my calender like they could on ACT unless I marked private which I usually forgot to. Anyways, I would like to know how the new ACT! 2008 syncs with the treo. I may have to just suck it up and try it. Actually yesterday I started using vzw wireless sync again (for the 50th time) Hopefully it works well which it has so far. |

Target | Target,
First of all, thank you for your willingness to help me. I am using ACT 6.0, I know it's old but we have not needed a reason to update so we haven't. Pressently, I use ACT link 2.0 and it works great but as my phone gets a bit older, the cable sometimes does not make a good connection and then I can't synch.
Someone recommended the bluetooth synch, so I bought a 2.0 bluetooth plugged it into my Windows XP and when it asks me to pick my PIM, I do not see ACT.
That's where I'm at so let me know if there is some other information I can provide to you and I will get it to you.
On a side note, I know someone just posted about upgrading to the latest ACT. I'm not sure I would be willing to do that, ACT is very quirky to me and my office. Has anyone had any experience with Microsoft Contact Manager?
I have contemplated making that move because I just believe that Microsoft will have a more stable product.
Regards,
Seone |

Hi Seone,
You are welcome for my willingness. I have used this forum multiple times and and found the users very helpful. I have also found very few to use ACT and try to link it on the Treo.
A couple more questions. It has been a year or so since I used ACT Link. I think it only allowed for limited data transfer. Contact info and and the like. But it sounds to me that the Bluetooth adapter or you local ports may be your issue and not ACT or ACT Link. What kind of Bluetooth adapter are you using? And, what ports do you have active in the HotSync Manager.
I have bluetooth build in to my laptop and have not had the issue of connecting to the PIM. However when I right click the Hot Sync icon in the tray, I have both "Local USB" & "Local" selected. The Bluetooth adapter may be on a local port. Ensure through the HotSync Manager that you are connected to your BT adapter. I bet that when it "finds" it, you'll sync just fine without wires.
Good Luck and please post your success.

Hey Leather,
I am on version 9, ACT 2007. I use companion link and it works well. I think I read on the companion link website that it is upgraded to work with ACT 2008. I haven't been on ACT 2007 very long. (Another dissapointment with Sage, buy their stuff and within 30-days there's a new version they want to sell you) I have about 2700 contacts and they all seem to smoothly go to my 650. I have noticed that the old contacts on my SIM card created duplicates on the Treo and in ACT, but that's fine right now. I have more issues keeping the database operational than I do getting it to sync.
My company is starting to expand to three users on ACT. Do you, by chance, sync calendars by email? I need to get a solution created this week. We are all mobile users as well.
Thanks,
Target
