| Email and the 700p Curious to know what apps people are using for email, and which work best? I've started with Wireless Sync from Verizon and am less than thrilled with it. Keep in mind I'm using the Palm Software (not outlook), and am syncing to my Outlook Express (@earthlink) email.
Wireless sync seems to have "lag times" that range from 15 - 45 minutes, where the email is taken from my earthlink server, to the Verizon wireless sync server, where it sits for undetermined amounts of time, before it's "Pushed" to my Treo. Not very reliable.
You can always do a "Manual Sync" to check to see if you have email, but this seems rather crude.
Also, there seems to be no way of deleting email from my "earthlink server" after deleting it from my phone, making it necessary to go back to my office, and sort through and delete the email all over again from my desktop !
Wireless sync also has an issue with "Sent" emails not showing up in the sent folder for hours!!
Just wondering if anyone using Versamail has any feedback?

| I think most will tell you chattermail. I'm evaluating that now and it is a cool app, but I don't need to get my email that fast and I don't have multiple accounts.
I'm going to install versamail this evening and see how that is. Currently I'm using the preinstalled mail app and verizon sync too. |

| Let me know what you think. I've read tons about Chattermail here too, and it seems like the preferred email app. I'm not using multiple addresses either, and at this point am almost takiing a "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" approach.
Can't believe all the issues I've read here this morning re: the Treo 700p. What an eye-opener

"Hollywood" | Do youself a favor...stop reading it. It will only make you feel worse about your purchase.
When I first read about all the problems, I thought, I must have caught a break, mine has no problems.
Then reality kicked in, bluetooth disconnects, freezes for no apparent reason, resets, lags in messaging, etc. I still have a great time with it when it isn't upset.
I'll let you know what I think of versamail. There is an update out for it now.
By the way, if you click on wireless sync on the treo, setup account, edit, you'll see a check box to leave email on server. If you uncheck that, your email should be deleted when you delete it from the treo.

| I personally use Snappermail since I don't need Push mail capabilities. The latest version is very stable and works well for me. I use it for retrieving both POP3 and IMAP email.

| I just use the Versamail that comes on the install disk. It works just fine for me. I have no use for "push".
The only problem I have had so far with Versamail is sometimes an old email will get stuck on the server and will keep poppin up when I push "get".
Ive heard that "soft resets" sometimes help the issues correct themselves. |

| A couple of major differences I see right now between chattermail and versamail are the alerts, email storage, and the frequency of syncs.
Chatteremail allows you to sync as frequently as every minute, versamail every 5 minutes.
Chatteremail offers a variety of alert options, vibrate, audio, vibrate and audio, LED, reminders, etc.
Chattermail allows storage of messages onto the SD card, versamail doesn't.
Versamail has audio, no vibrate (that sucks).
Versamail also seems to have issues connecting periodically, it seems to think my email is busy.
Contrary to what I've read about versamail, having more than one email account is no trouble at all.
My opinion is, if you have a need to get your email faster than every 5 minutes, you keep some messages for long periods, and you need to make sure you are alerted of your new messages when they arrive, then versamail isn't for you.
I might end up buying chattermail because I need the vibrating alert on email and verizon sync mail takes too long to retrieve.

I've got to tell ya however, after reading about all the problems people are having after installing all kinds of different software on their "p's", I'm tempted to just "leave well enough alone" and deal with Wireless Sync for email, as long as my device seems to be working properly. The "lag times" aren't all that bad, and I've sort of been getting used to doing a "Manual Sync" any time I want to check to see if I have email. Wireless Sync DOES allow you to be notified by "Audio" as well as "Vibrate", and you can also have a "Visual" (little flashing yellow bell in the top left hand corner) notify you of alerts as well.
I just wish there were a way to have itemes deleted from my earthlink server, after I delete them from my phone.
There's also an issue with "Sent" emails not showing up in the "sent" folder for a period of time, but I've spoken to Verizon about this, and they say "they're working on it".

"Hollywood" | I've added a few apps and I'm not experiencing many problems. My phone problems happened before installing any apps, so did the messaging lag.
Now the phone is resetting whenever I go to "my Treo", which I don't use, I just did it for kicks.
Wireless sync email was cool for me too. But not being able to separate messages if you're checking more than one mailbox is awful. I did a small test yesterday. I sent myself an email. I had chattermail, versamail, and wireless sync check for new messages.
Chattermail and versamail were instant, wireless sync finally acknowledged it about 30 minutes later, even though I did a sync.
That's bad. |

| Yeah I hear ya. The Verizon "techs" say the "lag time" is supposed to be 15 min MAX, but I too have seen it run over half an hour
Post back if you spring for Chattermail & let me know what you think.
