Default evdo and phone usage

I am seriously looking at the new 700p. One major reason is so I can connect to evdo and work via cable connection to my laptop. This would allow me to drop my Sprint Card account.

Does anyone know if the phone service (voice calls) is disabled while connected to evdo? Or can they work simultaneously? What limitations are there when using evdo connected to a laptop?

If anyone out there has experience with connecting the phone to a laptop, I would appreciate your input.

Thanks.

I don't think you can multitask with palm.

Just basing off what I've heard. I don't have one myself but I too am looking into getting one.

Your calls will go to voicemail. This is from my personal experienced using EV-DO with the 700p.

Default Answer calls and stay online

New to the forum but I have been reading up on the Treo, have been looking at them for a while. According to this article you can be online and answer calls.

Like I said I new to the Treo world so I do not know all the site to believe and those to question.

Being on the EVDO data network itself should not prevent you from recieving calls. I can and have recieved a call while syncing my mail.

I say *shouldn't* because it doesn't when using the data network on the Palm itself.

However, that being said, connecting and using it with a Laptop and tying up the USB interface and/or the bluetooth interface at the same time, may prevent you from recieving a call.

I don't know if the Palm can handle _THAT_.

I have not tested it.

Informative Receiving Calls While Online

Currently using a Sprint 650 and awaiting 700p. While online with PDANet and the 650 a voice mail call alert (viberate or tone - which ever you have it set to) is sent to the device so you know someone attempted to contact you. Drop your connection and check your VM account.

With the 700p (I have heard and am awaiting a response elsewhere) that one doesn't even need PDANet to avoid additional charges (even with their "Unlimited Data Packages"). Even if PDANet is required, it is 3rd party app., only a one time charge of $34 last I checked at junefabrics.com or on this site at the ET Store and available NOW for the 700p. June Fabrics has been extremely helpful, responds to my queries within two days and has sent me new updates. Make sure you download the trial version first as it does not always play well on all PC's/Laptops/OS's. They warn you right up front and there are NO REFUNDS. I have many PC's/Laptops on my networks and have found only one where it has some problems but it still works. Patience is required on that machine while I wait up to five minutes for everything to "sync" but that is most likely since the OS is messed up and patched together temporarily. I just have not had the time to rebuild it and download all of the updates.

There is also a setting which allows for remaining online while using the 650/700p to "multi-task" and look for something within the device at the same time.

Good luck.

Respectfully submitted.

Please disregard my prior message about incoming calls going to voice mail while using EVDO. I am now able to take calls while the phone is being used as a modem thru PCS Connection

Exclamation Please Do Not Leave Us Hanging

Are you using the phone on its own as a modem as a seperate device on your computer, through PDANet software as a seperate device on your computer or just surfing on your phone and still receiving a call? If not sure what I am talking about send me a PM (personal message). Many are waiting with baited breath on these issues in several different threads. No question is ever "stupid" and no one will SLAM you even if you think it is. This is how we learn as well as save $. Not all are experts and can afford the time/effort/energy/$ to call someone at tech support. We support each other here!!
