Question I need HELP for Gmail forwarding 700p

Okay, so i've been having this problem. I want to get my gmail forwarded from my gmail account to my 700p. I started off using the settings that were in the instruction manual for my device and they seemed to help. When i tried to "get" new messages I would see the "Connecting to Mail Server" then the retrieving new messages bar. However when the phone would actually begin to download my messages it would either download anywhere between 7 and 20 then freeze up and give me a "Unable to connect to pop.gmail.com Please verify your server name entry."

So i contacted Sprint and they tried to help me reconfigure my incoming/outgoing server settings. As for incoming they told me to uncheck both boxes leaving the port number @ 110. As for incoming they told me to just check the 2nd box but change the port number to 645. (I called them a few times and we changed all the ports from 25 to 587 to 645 but nothing seemed to work).

The sprint person told me because i have about 350 inbox mail messages that this may be the reason why it's not working. So this morning i deleted a bunch, leaving my inbox @ 48 messages. It still doesnt' work. I need help. :-/

GMail's POP setting is not standard. Looks like you need to fiddle around with the Ports as illustrated in GMail's webpage: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/a...y?answer=13287.

Here's the cut-and-paste from the page:
Incoming Mail (POP3) Server - requires SSL:
pop.gmail.com
Use SSL: Yes
Port: 995
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - requires TLS:
smtp.gmail.com (use authentication)
Use Authentication: Yes
Use STARTTLS: Yes (some clients call this SSL)
Port: 465 or 587
Account Name: your Gmail username (including '@gmail.com')
Email Address: your full Gmail email address (username@gmail.com)
Password: your Gmail password

(BTW, I don't think you're *forwarding* your GMails here. Looks like you're trying to access GMail from your 700p using an email app on your unit, correct?)

all the settings that you mentioned and port 465 work, then midway through the whole download i get a connection timeout. it says i have 310 messages in my inbox, but i know i only have like 48? i cleaned my inbox out yesterday. Plus the messages that come to my phone are from last year! ??

I was going to suggest the port settings that webedc gave. One other thing to try would be to empty your Trash folder. Gmail can be a little strange sometimes. I know I sometimes get my Sent messages downloaded into my Inbox with Snapper.
You also might want to try changing the "Timeout" value (under Preferences, Connections) as well as the "Get only" setting (under Preferences, Delivery Options).

Is anyone else having problems with getting your sent emails when receiving emails from your gmail account? I can't figure out how to NOT retrieve from my ALL MAIL. I want to obviously just receive from my INBOX folder. Thanks
