Hard Reset? Saving contacts?

I have been having trouble for a week or so with my Treo 700p resetting itself, and getting an error message saying data was not saved, and getting text messages from an unknown dated 12/31/31. It is doing weird stuff. I took it to a sprint store and they said I need to save all my contacts to my computer, and do a hard reset, but I am not sure how to do that, and when i try syncing it using the desktop cradle, it says it cannot connect!

Im confused, any ideas on where I should go from here? Thanks!

If you have a card, you can save them to the card. Better yet, download NVBackup, which is free, and make a backup of the device and then restore only the PIM databases.

Now, at what point is it resetting itself?

It was mainly resetting itself when accessing my Versamail, or Internet, I did the hard reset and am now trying to get all my setting to restore to the way they were.......cant seem to get it back to a different alert sound for Emails and Texts.
