Default Help getting my contacts from my Treo 650 to my 700p, then synching?

I have had a Treo 650 for a couple of years, and a Kyocera 7135 before that. The physical connection in the 650 is pretty screwed up and doesn't allow me to synch. Yesterday I got the 700p via Verizon, and the girl in IT said the best way to get them over is to beam them using Filez. That worked like a charm, but once I've installed the Palm Desktop software on my PC, it won't synch the handheld info over to the desktop. It just hangs on that step. As far as I know, it isn't corrupt or anything - it seems to work perfectly on either phone. At last count, I had 685 contacts (many with lots of notes in them), and it is not going to be fun to cut-and-paste, which is what I'm trying to avoid.

Has anyone else had this problem, or ideas on how to fix it? I have backup buddy, so I was going to try that approach at some point, unless I get a better idea from this forum, but I have a feeling BB is doing the same data transfer and I'll be stuck with the same problem when I try to synch again -

Thanks for your help in advance -

BS

Default

The girl in IT, well. Suggestion one: run DBScan to determine the state of the PIM file (http://pimlicosoftware.com/dbscan.zip). After ensuring the file is in good shape (you may have to read the doc's and it is discussed here on the board), then set the conduits to "device overwrites desktop" for the majority of items being sync'd. In fact, my conduit has none where "desktop overwrites device" is the default action.

If you had the desktop from the 650 installed and the PIMs working there, then uninstalling the 650 desktop (leaving the data), installing the 700p desktop would have left you in a position of everything there.
