| Hot Sync Failing Bottom Line: After performiong a HARD reset of my 700p, Hot Sync does not work, so I have no calendar, no contacts, no memos, no tasks, etc. Hot Sync, which used to work great, doesn't populate any of those things on my 700p, even though my Palm Desktop has lots of stuff.
The History: I had a relatively small problem: I have 2 Versamail accounts for my 2 Gmail accounts. One worked fine, the other stopped getting messages from gmail. I called Verizon Tech Support and the tech said she couldn't help with Versamail because that was a Palm thing (????), but she suggested installing Wireless Sync for my email. When it also failed to work, I called Tech Support back. This time I was kicked up to Tier 2. The Tier 2 tech said this had nothing to do with Versamail or Wireless Sync since they both failed, and it must be gmail or me.
So far, things weren't so bad. I hadn't solved my problem with one of my gmail/Versamail accounts, but everything else was fine. I called Palm Tech Support and first we did a soft reboot. No change. They checked various things (is your Gmail account actually getting mail, etc.) and then said I needed to do a HARD reset, i.e. remove the battery while holding down the red key. I was assured it was OK since I could get everything back with Hot Sync from my Palm Desktop. (NOTE: I've been using Hot Sync several times a day between home computer, office computer and Treo and it's been great). Well, nothing has come back with Hot Sync. I still see the info on my Palm Desktop, but Hot Sync isn't working. ???????

| A really stupid question, if it is coming up but not working, is the port set correctly? have you tried Bluetooth (if you have it).

Ben | First, thanks for the response.
Bouetooth: I have bluetooth with my car, and yes, it's working fine. After the hard reset, I did have to re-input the password into my Treo, but it's now fine and I can place calls through the car radio system.
Port Setting. I don't recall setting anything when I first got my Treo a few months ago, and HotSync worked fine immediately. Which options do you mean? I'm connected using a USB cable. Right now, it goes through all the steps, cleans up and says "HotSync operation complete" but nothing is transferred.

| If it states "HotSync operation complete" that is an indication that the conduits are not set properly. They should be set to sync or device overwrites desktop or desktop overwrites device, depending on what you want to accomplish. I have mine defaulted to "device overwrites desktop."

Ben | I agree that it's one of the settings in my Palm Desktop, or possibly the Treo. Because I have "my stuff" loaded into the Palm Desktop, and the Treo is empty, I've set the Palm Desktop to "Desktop overwrites handheld". But that's not working (sad grimace and a little laugh). I have mucked about with the settings to try and get something working, and I've probably really messed things up. Is there somewhere I can read/get help on proper settings?
Side Note: I'm feeling very fortunate and perplexed that it worked "right out of the box" without any change of settings from me.

| First thing to check, go to Preferences (under SYSTEM) group, OWNER, make sure that is entered EXACTLY the way it was before you did the hard reset, otherwise, Palm Desktop will see it as a new or second device and start a user folder for the new name. |

On the Treo, the HotSync main screen, top right-hand corner it says Treo Home. On the Palm Desktop, top right-hand corner, it says Treo. There IS a Treo hold "folder", and it's blank for Calendar content. How do I change the setting on HotSync to Treo?
Thanks in advance, |

| Ahhh, your owner Name needs to be set,
1. Pick up Treo
2. Turn on Treo and unlock keyguard by pressing center of the 5-way button.
3. Press the "Home" button (with lil house on it, upper left of keyboard) until the CATEGORY "SYSTEM" is showing. OR take stylus and tap Category name, and select SYSTEM category from the drop down list.
4. Select Prefs Icon, a list of topics will pop up
5. Under Personal, scroll down a bit to show "Owner" , select that item
6. Look at your palm desktop software on your computer and make sure the screens for address book ect. are showing all your contact info. If it is blank, see if another user account has been created by going to the upper right and using the dropdown list. If a second account is there, take a look at that and see if your stuff is there. Once you have found your data, USE THE USER NAME selected to rename your Treo's OWNER field. Type it EXACTLY like it was in the upper right corner of your Palm Desktop Software where it Identified "user".
7. Click Done at the bottom.
8. Perform a soft reset to get a clean start.
9. Perform a hotsync
This should have you back up and running.

| Thanks for taking the time to provide these directions. Steps 1-5 clear. At step 5, Under Preferences, it says:
This device is owned by:
Treo.
BUT, the HotSync screen, top right-hand corner still says Treo Home. In my Palm Desktop, there are two users listed: Treo and Treo Home. The Treo user has all my data. The Treo Home user has no calendar data, etc.
Because my Treo thinks it's name is "Treo Home", when I perform a HotSync the few contacts and Calendar entries I have manually entered (in the last few hours) show up in the Palm Desktop for the Treo Home user. So clearly the Treo is communicating with the PC, but I seem to have a problem with user/names.
On your step 6, first sentence, in the Palm Desktop I don't see a setup with my contact info. Where is that?

| Yikes, this is a curious glitch.
IF you are just wanting the address book, Make sure you are on the profile with all your data "Treo"
1. Go to Palm Desktop and select address book, then go to menu item EDIT, select all, MenuItem FILE, export, name the address book archive, and click OK,
2. Go to the User List on the Right, change user to "Treo Home"
3. Go to MenuItem FILE, import, Select the archive you just saved in the previous step. All address book data will be copied. I do not know which parts of the palm desktop this will or will not work for. So far, CALENDAR appears to not be copyable.
If you wish to just go back to where you were before the hard reset, and get everything including the problems back, here ya go... This is a drastic solution and you may want to wait for other responses. It will get your contact info back, but all data on your phone since the hard reset will be at risk or lost, and whatever errors will be restored and you will have to go through settings to get them working.
1. Go to Palm Desktop on the computer
2. On the upper right where it lists Users: Treo, Treo Home, Edit Users, select EDIT USERS.
3. Select Treo Home
4. Delete this user, as it only has partial info. Any programs ect. you have installed with this user setup will be lost.
5. Do write down any valuable names & numbers that you have added to your phone since or had contact with the original user info on Palm Desktop, check call logs & everything for numbers you dont have already.
6. Do a hard reset.
a. remove battery for a few seconds
b. press RED phone button & hold while reinserting battery, continue to hold while the first palm screen comes up , until the 2nd screen or unit asks you to erase all data, then press UP, wait for unit to come back on.
7. Do as little as possible to complete the setup, dont set an owner name or anything.
8. Perform a hotsync
9. A window will come up asking you if you want to create a new account for the handheld, or associate it with an existing account., Select Existing account, and the "treo" name. After hotsync is completed, you should have everything, including your original email problems back, so you will have to go through the settings to correct whatever errors there were with that.
