Once you convert it to WMV format then re sync it to your phone to email or send it from your desktop.
Argh!! my copy of Windows Movie Maker (for XP Pro) doesn't recognize .3g2 files for import. Do you know if there's a possible upgrade for this software for my OS?
Thanks so much for this lead, though. I'll chase it down some more.

Yes it does. I have a 700P and a 700wx. On my WX if I make a video it is in 3G2 format.
On the windows movie maker go to files>open project>and after you open the folder your 3g2 file is in>go to the bottom and select ALL Files. You should then see your video. All you have to do is export it in WMV format.
Note: You may not have the codecs automatically turned on. For this go to tools>options>General then select the download Codecs atuomatically function. After highlighting this function, close out windows movie maker, then reopen it up... Let me know if any of this works.

Sadly, no. You were right that I didn't have Download Codecs enabled, so I did so and quit out of Movie Maker.
Even after restarting it, I'm getting the following error message: "The file C:\Documents and Settings\<blah blah blah>\Video_081907_001.3g2 is not a supported file type, and it cannot be imported into Windows Movie Maker." (same message as before).
My Windows Movie Maker is Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp_2_qfe.070227-2300 : Service Pack 2). I'm using Windows Media Player 10, because of some compatibility issues with one of my MP3 devices and WMP11. I have a desktop with WMP11 though. Maybe I can see if that changes my error. Also, perhaps rebooting completely wouldn't kill me. I'll keep at it, but if seeing the error sparks any other ideas, I'd be grateful.

Question: What format do you get if you use the 700P then? (That's what I'm using)

The same. I have a 700wx & a 700P. I dont know why your windows movie maker wont recognize 3G2 format. can you play the file/video on your desktop using windows media player? If you can't.... open your media player... got to options>file types> and make sure all the supported file types are selected. 3G2 is a Palm format used to compress Video on its phones. If your medial player recognizes and playes your 3g2 file, then media movie maker should recognize it as well.

Yes, it plays in WMP, but I get a warning/alert first... I can get it to play in QuickTime, too.
When I try to load it in WMP, I get the following message:
"The selected file has an extension that is not recognized by Windows Media Player, but the Player may still be able to play it. Because the extension is unknown by the Player, you should be sure that the file comes from a trustworthy source. ... Do you want the Player to try to play the file?"
I select YES and it will play.
It's sounding to me like you've installed some later-version of the Movie Maker or some extension that registered 3g2 with Movie-Maker and WMP? Can you think of anything you might have installed that would have fit that bill?

3g2 videos
1st time on the forum, so i hope this gets to you... i'm just starting to try and send a video to a buddy, taken on my new 755p... Have you had any luck figuring out how to convert the "3g2" file to something more generic that anyone can view?... I tried to play it in Corel's Ulead, & it didn't recognize the file/extension... Does QuickTime allow you to change the format (burning/converting/???/whatever...)???
thank you

My own QuickTime seems to open the video fine, but other people seem to lack the CODEC and I don't like putting the onus on my friends to install CODECs if I have a way to convert the video to something that will work for them.
I've been to a few other sites, and have seen a few free or shareware converters, (e.g. 3GP_Converter034 and Xilisoft) but none have worked for me (they start, but then stall with a 0-byte destination file, and never finish). These have all been generic "3GP/3G2" converters, and were not recommended by Treo users, so I'm forced to wonder if there's something special about Treo's .3g2 implementation. Because of that, I'm reluctant to spend cash on a program that may not work any better.
Can someone recommend a process, program, or anything that will let me share my camcorder clips with my friends? Free is great, but cost isn't a big deal if it works well.

Hello all, first time posting because I have been trying everything as posted in this section with little to no success. I am a bit disappointed because my husband bought the Treo 700wx for me while he is deployed to Iraq and I had everything at the tip of my fingertips when I am out with our kids. This video 3gpp2 is the most annoying thing and I am no novice to technology and computers. I have tried every possible video converter and nothing is working! I take photos and videos of our children to send to him while he is in Iraq and he cannot use a mobile phone for me to just send via my phone, so I have to upload and place on our website or youtube for him to see. I cannot do this without the videos being converted and I am very upset. I refuse to buy anything at this point when the trials and the sharewares are not even successful. I do a lot of FRAPSing with Windows Movie Maker and that is not recognizing the 3gp2 either, so I am in desperate need of advice. Is there not ANYTHING to make this conversion easier ... even better yet, why the hell should I have to convert when he spent $400 on the thing and I can't even just upload the vidz and go?? Please help!

3g2 converter is a powerful tool to convert 3G2 format to other common video formats, What's more, it has simple editing functions for you to optimize the 3G2 files.

As far as I can see, Windows Media Player doesn't convert 3g2 files - or even open them.
