| International phone use My daughter is in Italy, and I have purchased an international calling plan for the Treo through Verizon. It's something like $3.60/ month, and my calls are 10 cents a minute. My husband and I will be traveling to Florence to visit her, and I was wondering if anyone knew if this phone plan will allow me to use the phone in Italy. Has anyone ever done this? Do I need to purchase SIMS card to use the Treo there, or does my international Verison plan work outside of the states?

| Not sure about Italy, although I'd be curious to hear if anyone else knows.
I can tell you however, that I was in Jamaica a few months ago with a "regular" US Verizon plan, nothing added. Phone worked great but no data (email, text messages etc., etc.)
ROAMING CHARGES WERE SUBSTANTIAL HOWEVER. I got a nice surprise in the following months bill!!

"Hollywood" | I am going to check with Verizon today and see what they have to say. It would be so great if I could use my phone there to if nothing more than to set up meeting times, etc. If anyone has experience with using the Treo abroad, I'd love to hear about it.

| Hi:
To use a SIM you need a GSM system. Verizon is CDMA and does not use SIM cards.
I believe Verizon can perform a chip upgrade to use in Europe, but I don't know if they can upgrade the Treo. My older phones they were able to do a few years ago.
What did they tell you?

| Well Jamaica, like many other resorts cater to the american business man. I can always use my phone phone when I go back to Jamaica.
Now I dont know about Italy, but I have used my Treo(Sprint) when I had to go to Germany. I could only use it at the airport in Frankfurt. Frankfurt has a cingular and Verizon tower in the international terminal. Since Verzion is CMDA i am guessing I was roaming on their tower. But once I left the airport grounds.... NOTHING. That was about 5 years ago, so who knows what you can do internationally now. Just call your provider and find out.

| I was stationed in Italy before coming here to SC. Like said above, Europe is on GSM. You can get cheap SIM cards over there, but they're no good in a Verizon phone.
Like also said above, you can give Verizon a call, but I wonder how much they would really be able to do for you there. I'm thinking it might just be "hotspots" like airports and such.
