It is a preference thing - you have to enable from within ZLauncher the "default launcher" thing. From ZLauncher - Menu - Options - ZL Preferences - General - left side, 4th box down, check the box at Default Launcher. During the trial period, all of ZLauncher's options are enabled.

Welcome to ET.com. The trial version of ZL works just like the paid version. You get all the features. It's a fairly large app, but you want to keep it on the Treo. It takes up some space but the biggest thing it does for you is manage your Treo space by launching other apps from the SD card. If you go through ZL, putting your apps on the card in the ZL launcher folder, you clear up space on your card. When you use ZL to launch an app, it temporarily moves the app into RAM while you use the app, then, when you're done, it moves the app back. That's arguably the biggest benefit you'll get from ZL.

The only apps you need to keep in RAM are ones with system interaction (ones that have/use alarms, anything that updates automagically, etc.).

If you take the time to move your apps and set up ZL from te start, I'm pretty sure you'll be satisfied. Hope this helps.
