Question Looping, Defective Smartphone, is "W" better?

Hello to all from a frustrated new user.

My reliable old Palm Zire met with an unfortunate and untimely end at the same time that I needed to replace a company phone with a personal one. Seemed like a Palm Treo combined the two in one tidy package . But just barely 30 days later, it would not turn on. When I put it on the charger, it looped endlessly through an "Access Powered" screen, a screen with the Palm logo, shut down, and kept doing those 3 things until I pulled the battery. All the data was lost. I'd been away from the laptop for two weeks, but had not entered much since the last sync.

Two Verizon stores in Florida were not at all helpful. But once I was back home, the local store tested the set, said it was defective, and a call to Verizon's 800 number got a replacement on its way. It turned out to be a 700W instead of 700P. I'm having a difficult time switching to a dfferent OS, especially without any documentation, and not have much success getting data from the Palm to Outlook. I have only been using Outlook Express for email on the laptop.

I'm trying to decide if this looping (and other problems described on this forum) is more common with the "P" and I would be better off sticking with this "W" - or does it happen with both? Is there a particular advantage to one or the other - or are they both prone to problems?

I had hoped to discontinue my land line, cancel my AT&T email account and eventually use the new Palm to access the Internet on my laptop. Wishful thinking maybe?

I'd appreciate any wisdom from those who are already using either of these.

I hope you ended up with a WX instead of the W - memory constraints are not at all good with the W. I had the P and was and still is solid - passed it on to one of the kids. I went with the Centro.

Back to the W, I had one for a very, very short period of time before I concluded that the memory configuration just was not sufficient to make the device stable, hence I got rid of it.

The WX is an excellent device and before I went with the Centro, I seriously considered going to a Windows 6x device, which left the Palm device out and because the Windows devices I looked at were not one-handed devices, well, I went with the Centro. When the 800 series Palm comes out, I will seriously look at it.
