Smile My first post - New Treo owner

    Hello all,

I am a proud new owner of a Treo!!!

Coming off a Motorola V710 its like I saw daylight for the first time. So far really impressed with the phone and also with the knowledge base that is on this site. I have been trolling for a few days picking up things here and there.

One question I could not really find an answer for was when checking email through Versamail ( I have AOL accounts) does the program shut off automaticly or does it just run on and on. I went under preferences and clicked on disconnect and left the idle time at 45 seconds but it seems like I am still connected by battery usage.

Ringtones seem to be a pain. Just think that could be easier to work with.

What cases are you putting your treo in? I need something that will go with jeans or suits and not look wierd.

All in all I am very pleased. I am sure I will be asking more and more questions as time goes on.

Thanks for the help already given in other peoples answers.

Oh one more thing. I will go see the Verizon guy on Tuesday when i am off work and may have to throw Babu or whatever his name is around a bit. he quoted me a price of 44.95 for unlimited use. I look online today and it is listed as 60 bucks? Any idea what the difference would be for? Verizon online does not give much info on it, need to know before the wife shoots me..

    Anyway.. Thanks! I'll be around!!!

    Here's my $.02...

I have Verizon and it's my understanding that you have GOT to have the $44.95 broadband plan. Otherwise, you have no idea how much bandwidth you're using and how high your bill might go.

So for me, the peace of mind to have unlimited bandwidth was worth the $44.95. Now ask me again in a month or two after I've had time to figure out what's "always on" and what's not, and that might change. But for now, the price difference doesn't matter.

I haven't had a chance to use anything other than the packaged ringtones that came with the Treo. Now the 'ringback' tones are different, depending on where you live. This is the music the caller hears while you're being located on the network.

As far as a case, I honestly thought about Vaja, since that's what I've always used. But I settled on a simple $14.95 (with s/h from eBay) cellsuit from Body Glove. Man am I happy! Works like a charm and looks good on my motorcycle or with a suit.

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it... Oh, and my wife hasn't shot me... yet:wink:

I have a clear skin on my Treo 650. http://store.everythingtreo.com/cont.../4-54--137.htm

It doesn't slip out of my hands. Of course, I didn't want a case that clipped to my belt, as some geeks prefer. So, the clear skin fit my needs perfectly.

Ramphog, you might want to look for free stuff here . .

Just a word of advice . . . Go slow on installs . . You have purchased a good back up program haven't you?? I would suggest starting with filez. It helps you to look at all files on your Treo and your card, and move them back and forth. Its pretty good for free. Be aware that some apps don't play nice with others . . . Thats why I say go slow on the installs. A good back up program allows you to create a restore point. If things go south, you can always select the point just before you installed that cool freeware game that put your treo in that reset loop . . . .

I've used my 650 for almost 2 years and I'm getting a 700P tomorrow. Anyway I only use 2 apps. The first app you should get is NVbackup. Totally free and works great. In two years it's saved my nethers quite a few times.
